The following questions must be considered when deciding whether to share information. ● Whose information is this? ● Is there a lawful basis to share the information? Justify the purpose and identify relevant legislation that applies. ● Can information be pseudonymised or anonymised ahead of sharing? ● How have individuals been informed that the information will be shared eg via a privacy notice? Will they have the expectation that their information will be shared? Consider whether notifying the individual of the sharing may place someone at risk or prejudice a police or safeguarding investigation. ● Have any requests not to share been received and considered? ● How much information is it necessary to share in this situation? ● Is the information accurate and up to date? Has the difference between fact and opinion been stated? ● Is access to the information limited to only those who need it? Is it being given to the right person? ● Is the information being shared in a secure way? ● Has the decision to share or not share, and the rationale for the decision, been recorded?
