Appointment of Departmental/Program Chairs Clause Samples

The Appointment of Departmental/Program Chairs clause outlines the process and authority for selecting individuals to lead academic departments or programs within an institution. Typically, this clause specifies who is responsible for making the appointment—such as a dean or provost—and may detail the criteria, term length, and procedures for nomination or approval. By clearly defining how chairs are chosen and the expectations for their role, this clause ensures transparency and consistency in academic leadership appointments, helping to prevent disputes and maintain effective departmental governance.
