Available Flowgate Capability Protocols Sample Clauses

The "Available Flowgate Capability Protocols" clause defines the procedures and standards for determining and communicating the available capacity of flowgates—critical transmission points—in an electric power grid. In practice, this clause outlines how system operators assess real-time and forecasted transmission limits, and how this information is shared with market participants or neighboring utilities to coordinate power flows. By establishing clear protocols, the clause ensures efficient use of transmission infrastructure, prevents congestion, and supports reliable grid operations.
Available Flowgate Capability Protocols. Purpose: The calculation of AFC is a forecast of transmission capability that may be available for use by transmission customers. Use of transmission capability in one system can impact the loadings, voltages and stability of neighboring systems. Because of this interrelationship, neighboring entities must exchange pertinent data for each entity to determine the AFC values for its own transmission system. The exchange of data related to calculation of AFC is necessary to assure reliable coordination, and also to permit either Party to determine if, due to lack of transmission capability, it must refuse a transmission reservation in order to avoid potential overloading of facilities.
