Conditions for Leave. Employees granted leave under this section are guaranteed a position upon return, but not necessarily the same position occupied prior to the leave or a position in the same classification. Employees returning from leave into a position of lesser classification shall receive salary according the scale for the lower classification. Employees placed in a position of lesser classification upon return from leave shall be given preference for placement into the first position which becomes available in their former classification. The Chief Superintendent or designee shall be authorized to grant leaves in accordance with this section, with exception that leave requested for a period beyond twenty (20) weeks shall require approval of the Board.
