Contexts of relevance Sample Clauses

Contexts of relevance. Take a single decision situation, or context, C, where remembering X is useful to the agent’s decision problem. Let us – in the name of simplicity – assume that there are only two possible outcomes: if the agent makes the wrong choice, her final utility will be u0; if she makes the right choice it will be (u0 + N (C)). Let σ symbolise making the right choice. In this situation we can see that E[u | sX, X, C] = + u(right choice) P (right choice | sX, X, C) = ( u(wrong choice) P (wrong choice | sX, X, C) u0 + N (C)) P (σ | sX, X, C) + u0P (¬σ | sX, X, C). (4.13) Since ex hypothesi the agent must either make the right or the wrong choice, from this we can see that ∆E[u | sX, X, C] = N (C)[P (σ | sX, X, C) − P (σ | 0, X, C)]. (4.14) { }i
