Conversion of Sick Leave Sample Clauses

The Conversion of Sick Leave clause allows employees to convert unused sick leave into another form of benefit, such as additional vacation days or monetary compensation. Typically, this process is subject to certain conditions, such as a minimum balance of unused sick leave or a cap on the amount that can be converted each year. The core practical function of this clause is to provide employees with flexibility in how they utilize their accrued leave, while also incentivizing good attendance and reducing the potential for excessive sick leave accumulation.
Conversion of Sick Leave. An employee shall be entitled to the conversion of his/her Sick Leave as follows:
Conversion of Sick Leave. Each January, at the employee’s option, he/she may convert their previous calendar year’s accumulated and unused sick leave to annual leave on a 10 to 1 ratio (10:1). (As an example, if the employee earned twelve (12) days sick leave in a calendar year and used no sick leave, they could convert the twelve (12) days to 1.2 days annual leave.) If an employee chooses to convert his/her sick leave, he/she forfeits that amount of sick leave and must use the converted annual leave within the calendar year. Under no circumstances will an employee receive cash payment for converted leave on the books. The employee must submit his/her request for conversion to their Department Director on or before January 31.
Conversion of Sick Leave. Each member may, during the month of January of each year, convert sick leave to vacation leave subject to the following conditions: (1) A member must convert in eight (8) hour increments. (2) A member may convert up to sixty-four (64) hours of sick leave. (3) Sick leave shall be converted at a rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for one (1) hour of vacation leave. (4) Once sick leave has been converted to vacation leave, it shall not be converted back to sick leave.

An Employee who has sixty-six (66) or more sick leave days may convert up to fifteen (15) of them to vacation days on the basis of three (3) sick leave days for one (1) vacation day, provided a balance of fifty-one (51) sick leave days remain. An Employee who has ninety-two (92) or more sick leave days may convert up to ten (10) of them to vacation days on the basis of two (2) sick leave days for one (1) vacation day, provided a balance of ninety (90) sick leave days remain. If such conversion results in less than five (5) “new” vacation days additional sick leave days may be converted on the basis of three (3) sick leave days for one (1) vacation day. The total number of vacation days obtained from such conversion cannot exceed five (5) days. C. Conversions will be made during the first part of January each year in order to facilitate vacation scheduling. Conversion may be made at some other time during the year with the approval of the Chief. D. Conversion privileges may be used, provided that the total number of vacation days allowed is not exceeded. E. At retirement, an Employee may convert any sick leave days to regular pay. This conversion will be on the basis of two (2) sick leave days for one (1) of regular pay. Retirement means an Employee is eligible by age and/or service requirements of the Public Employees Retirement System or the Police and Fire Pension Fund to receive compensatory benefit at the time of his/her separation from City employment.

Conversion of Sick Leave. 6.7.1 Hourly sick leave to daily sick leave: Contract and regular employees who have earned hourly sick leave with the District may convert this hourly sick leave to daily sick leave under the following conditions: a. The rate of conversion shall be one (1) day for each four (4) hours of sick leave earned by credit employees, or one (1) day for each five (5) hours of sick leave earned by noncredit employees; and b. Such conversion shall occur only when all daily sick leave is exhausted and only for serious illness or injury. 6.7.2 Daily sick leave to hourly sick leave: Contract and regular employees who have earned daily sick leave with the District may convert this daily sick leave to hourly sick leave under the following conditions: a. The rate of conversion shall be one (1) day for each four (4) hours of sick leave earned by credit employees, or one (1) day for each five (5) hours of sick leave earned by noncredit employees; and b. These conversions must be utilized in whole or half-day units and will not require the District to maintain records based on hours or portions of days other than whole or half-day units; and c. No salary conversions will be authorized for overload sections that are canceled for low enrollment or other reasons or for overload sections that may be necessary to complete a contract assignment; and d. Such conversions shall occur only when all hourly sick leave is exhausted and only for serious illness or injury.
Conversion of Sick Leave. Upon Becoming an Administrator Under this Agreement When a teacher employed by the District who worked 7.5 hours per day becomes an administrator and is required to work 8 hours per day, he will have his accumulated sick leave hours converted by dividing the number of hours by 7.5 and then multiplying by 8. Any administrator who has had his/her accumulated sick leave converted by this formula who later returns to a teaching or other position requiring 7.5 hours per day shall have his sick leave hours reconverted by dividing the total hours by 8 and then multiplying by 7.5. Note: This Article is adopted because employees earn sick leave on a daily rate but the District keeps track of earning and usage of the leave on an hourly basis. This creates an inequity when an employee changes from a 7.5 hour day to an 8 hour day.
