Cost of Service Deferral Accounts Clause Samples

The 'Cost of Service Deferral Accounts' clause establishes a mechanism for temporarily recording certain costs or revenues that are not immediately recognized in a company's financial statements. In practice, this clause allows a utility or service provider to defer specific expenses—such as unexpected maintenance costs or regulatory charges—by placing them in a dedicated account to be recovered or settled in future periods, often through adjustments to customer rates. This approach helps smooth out the financial impact of irregular or unpredictable costs, ensuring that ratepayers and the company are treated fairly over time and that financial reporting remains accurate and transparent.
