Detailed Specification. A. Landing area slash 1. Machine pile all slash (except for slash that is too small to be effectively piled), this would be defined as at least 4 inches in diameter, and at least 4 feet long, that is on the cleared landing during skidding and decking operations. 2. Slash piles shall be located at least 35 feet from the bole of any dead, or live tree, or equal-distance between standing dead or live trees, whichever is greater. Piles shall be free of dirt and rocks. 3. Piles shall be a minimum of 4 feet in height and 12 feet in diameter, where practicable, and as compact as possible. Pile shall be free of dirt and rocks to facilitate clean and rapid consumption. 4. Do not include stumps from landing and decking area. Construction stumps shall be yarded into locations approved by the Forest Service. 5. All material extending beyond the general contour of the piled slash shall be trimmed off and added to the pile. 6. Slash shall be scattered in areas, where necessary to use for erosion control, or where minimum pile height cannot be met. 7. A fireline that is no less than 10 foot width, to bare mineral soil shall be constructed around each slash pile.
