English as a Second Language. As determined by the Bilingual Syntax Measure, except those functioning without difficulty - the regular classroom: Primary level 4 Students at Level 4 have little difficulty communicating their ideas in English, and do not rely heavily on gestures or on their native language to get across their meaning. They usually control syntactic structures that include plurals, articles, pronouns, and some verb endings. Errors are often made in the more complex verb forms, and in advanced number agreements. Intermediate level 5 Level 5 students demonstrate a fairly high degree of proficiency in English, approaching native proficiency in the case of younger students. They control most of the basic grammatical structures of English. For older students, this level represents incomplete learning of some of the more advanced structures. m.
