This clause ensures that, in the event of the policyholder's death, eligible dependents—such as a spouse or children—can continue to receive insurance coverage under the policy. Typically, the clause outlines the conditions under which dependents qualify for extended coverage, such as time limits or requirements to notify the insurer. Its core function is to provide continuity of benefits for dependents, preventing sudden loss of coverage and offering financial protection during a period of transition.

EXTENDED COVERAGE TO ELIGIBLE DEPENDENTS UPON DEATH OF POLICYHOL- DER. In the event of the death of the policyholder, the insurer will provide continued coverage for the surviving dependents insured under this policy by affording one
(1) year worth of coverage at no charge if the cause of the death of the policyholder results from a covered condition under this policy. This benefit only applies to covered dependents under the existing policy, and will automatically terminate in the event of marriage of the surviving spouse/domestic partner, or for surviving dependents who are not otherwise eligible for coverage under this policy and/or are issued their own separate policy. This extended coverage does not apply to any optional rider. The extended coverage goes into effect as per the next renewal date or anniversary date, whichever comes first, after the death of the policyholder.
