Common use of Extended Professional Leave Clause in Contracts

Extended Professional Leave. A. Extended professional leave is defined as a professional leave experience that would require more than thirty (30) consecutive school days. This leave may be paid or unpaid. This leave may be available to teachers with at least five (5) years of service at WCS. Teachers who apply for an Extended Professional Leave commit to continued employment at Wa-Nee Community Schools for five years following completion of the Leave. 1. In order to request Extended Professional Leave, the teacher must submit a written proposal six (6) months in advance of the leave to the Director of Curriculum outlining the following: a. Detailed description of professional learning to be completed during leave including expected start/end date. b. Description of how leave supports current district/school initiatives c. Letter of support from building principal d. Any special accommodations required during leave 2. Upon receipt of proposal, the Director of Curriculum shall review based upon the following criteria: a. Alignment with district’s Mission, Vision, and Goals b. Alignment with current professional learning initiatives c. Relevance and significance of proposed plan d. Impact leave and new learning will have on students 3. If leave is recommended by Director of Curriculum, request will be submitted to Superintendent for final review and decision upon whether to recommend to board for approval. If approved, the district and teacher shall enter into a formal Extended Professional Leave Agreement outlining the following terms and conditions, including but not limited to: a. Leave duration b. Return to work obligations
