Assignment will be made each Monday at 9:15 A.M. unless otherwise notified. 23.6 Availability time shall be: A. School Day (Approximately 9:00 A.M. - 2:15 P.M.) B. After-Afternoon Route (Approx. 4:00 P.M. & Later) C. Weekends and Holiday Vacations 23.7 A bus driver’s name may be on one or more of these availability lists. Field trip requests shall be placed in one of the month prior to above categories, and the scheduled tripsdrivers will be selected from this list for that trip. Field Trips. 1A. Request for Transportation Forms (Field Trip Tickets) shall be used for requesting field trips. Drivers will be compensated one-hour show up time if they arrive for a short notice of less than seventyfield trip that has been canceled and they were not notified. Field Trips. 1Any Board paid field trip shall be driven by a contracted unit member. With Field trip assignments involving overtime/extra time will be rotated as equally as possible among contracted unit member bus drivers and qualified maintenance drivers, as follows: a. The Transportation Supervisor shall establish an annual field trip eligibility list. Each driver will be placed on the exception of annual field trip eligibility list in seniority order. Field Trips. 1. With Night, weekend, holiday and additional trips not part of an employee’s regular route shall be assigned from the exception volunteer trip rosters. The trip rosters will be made up of eligible bus drivers who sign up on a volunteer basis. Eligible bus drivers will be placed on the appropriate trip roster based on seniority. There shall be two (2) trip rosters. One for regular workweek field trips required and one for golf practiceweekend field trips. A substitute shall be obtained for the regular route by the driver, unless the trip is offered with less than seventy-two (72) hours' notice, in which case the Transportation Supervisor will fill the route. Field Trips. 1The Supervisor of Transportation shall establish one rotation schedule based on seniority for drivers for co-curricular and extra-curricular trips. With Drivers may bid on these trips when not assigned to a regular route. However, overnight trips (of 8 hours or more) are available to be bid on using the exception established rotation schedule by all drivers, regardless of their route schedule. These overnight trips required shall be eligible for golf practice, compensation up to a maximum of 12 hours per day. A. All drivers first pick will be honored regardless of it, tentatively raising their work hours more than forty (40) hours for the week. All other picks can be skipped in the rotation due to the least senior driverpotential of being over forty (40) hours, then back unless there are not enough drivers available or willing to cover all of the most senior driver, etc.; the next round resumes with the next driver in seniority who was awarded the last trip available trips for that roundweek. This submission shall occur either electronically or in a conspicuous place writing. B. A driver may choose more than one (1) trip per day. Return time expected from the first trip should be at least two (2) hours before the start of the second trip unless the first trip is 10 miles or less and is expected to return on schedule as determined by the transportation supervisor. There will be no trading of trips. Absence from work due to illness, death in the bus garage immediate family or approved personal business leave shall be the only reason for observation giving up a trip. Drivers who surrender a trip for other reasons shall be ineligible for all field trips in the next full rotation unless the reason is approved by the drivers for a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours prior to trip assignmentstransportation supervisor. An emergency is any field trip that cannot be assigned, twenty-four (24) hours ahead of take-off time. Emergencies are not counted as a turn and you do not lose your place on the rotating seniority list. D. Emergency rotations list begins with July 1 anew. Emergency field trips will be posted given out or assigned by the Director of Transportation or designee on the basis of seniority. A driver who receives a completed emergency field trip shall not be assigned a second emergency trip until all drivers have been given the opportunity for bid such assignment. “On the first workday spot emergency field trips” will be assigned to the most senior driver/aide that is available and present in the lounge. In the event that no drivers are available in the lounge, a request to cover the emergency run will be announced over the radio and will be awarded to the most senior and empty available driver from trip location within five (5) minutes from pickup location of field trip. In the event that a second emergency trip is assigned in error, the error shall be corrected. If the error is detected after the emergency trip is in progress*, the driver taking the trip will be bypassed when his/her next regular field trip turn comes up. E. Any field trip once assigned cannot be turned back in except for personal illness or if the field trip shifts by more than one and one-half hours (1 ½), upon approval of the month Director of Transportation or his/her designee. Any field trip turned back in shall be considered an emergency and driver will not receive the next field trip out. F. Reverse seniority shall be used when all bargaining unit members refuse a trip, a substitute driver will be offered the field trip if no regular driver is available. In the case that no substitute is available, the bargaining unit member with the least seniority must take the trip. G. If a driver or assistant is absent on Friday, he/she will not be assigned a field trip that day for Saturday or Sunday. If the driver or assistant is absent on Friday, and already has a field trip assigned to him/her for Saturday or Sunday, it shall be the driver's or assistant’s responsibility to notify management by 1:00 p.m. Friday of his/her intention to drive the weekend field trip. Failure to do so will automatically cause the trip to become an emergency at 1:01 p. H. Field trips are trips other than normal transporting of students to and from school. One (1) elementary annual field day field trip is considered extra work and filled from Extra Work Sheet separately A.M. and P.M. I. Field trip buses should not be overloaded, but limited to a safe capacity. J. All Bedford School District field trips or athletic trips driven in a passenger-carrying vehicle which has a rated seating capacity of sixteen (16) passengers or more shall be bid on by regular bus drivers on a continuous rotating seniority basis. The Board of Education, through the Superintendent, Director of Transportation and Athletic Director shall have the sole discretion to determine whether such District transportation will be utilized for field trips or athletic trips on a case by case basis. This provision does not prevent the Bedford Athletic Boosters from securing a commercial carrier to transport athletes. If there is a change in the PERA with regard to the use of volunteers, the parties agree to meet to bargain over the impact of such change. K. Field trip cancellation 1. Employees who receive advance notice of a field trip cancellation do not receive show up time, but shall receive the next unassigned field trip provided he/she has signed. 2. Employees who report for their field trip, and the field trip has been canceled prior to the scheduled tripsdeparture of the bus, the driver shall receive a minimum time of two (2) hours show up or the option to go on their own run if it is available, and will be eligible for the next unassigned field trip provided he/she has signed. Except as provided in paragraph 1 above, certified volunteer van drivers or sub drivers may Drivers will not be used paid for both. 3.
