Common use of Forests Clause in Contracts

Forests. 1. The Parties shall promote the sustainable management and use of forestry resources. They shall cooperate to reverse deforestation, support reforestation, halt forest degradation and restore the ability of forests to provide ecosystem services. 2. The Parties shall promote sustainable value chains of forest products, prioritising job creation and the harnessing of economic opportunities in the conservation of ecosystems. They shall combat illegal logging and associated trade, and shall promote responsible mining operations. 3. The Parties shall support the implementation of sustainability mechanisms, such as the EU's Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) Action Plan, including by concluding and/or implementing Voluntary Partnership Agreements. They shall strengthen coherence and positive interactions at country level between sustainability mechanisms and the Warsaw Framework on Reducing Emissions for Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+). 4. The Parties shall strengthen the involvement of local authorities and communities in the sustainable management of forests. They shall raise public awareness on deforestation at all levels and encourage the production and consumption of resource- and energy-efficient products from sustainably managed forests.
