FREEDOM FROM VIOLENCE. ‌ 1. All Teachers are entitled to a working environment free from violence as defined in the Workplace Safety and Health Act. 2. Intimidation refers to threatening behaviour by any person which gives a teacher substantial reason to believe that they are at risk of violence. 3. Incidents of violence, threats of violence or intimidation experienced by teachers shall be reported to the Superintendent or designate and shall be investigated jointly by the Superintendent, or designate, and the President of the Association, or designate, who shall be empowered to make joint recommendations to the Board regarding the corrective action which should be taken. 4. Nothing in this Article reduces in any way the authority of the Principal/Vice Principal to deal with situations of violence in their schools.

The working and learning environment should be free from physical or emotional abuse. Physical abuse shall mean acts of violence against a person, the person’s family and the person’s possessions. Emotional abuse consists of obscene gestures, verbal abuse, threats of physical abuse and harassment. Incidents of abuse will be treated with confidence and dealt with through Divisional Policy. This section is subject to The Public Schools Act and regulations thereto and is not intended to abrogate any management rights with respect to the student disciplinary process.
