Guidelines For Appointment and Promotion. 14.12.1 Librarian II To qualify for appointment to the rank of Librarian II, the candidate shall have the minimum of a recognized professional degree in Library Science (M.L.S. or equivalent). In addition, there shall be the achievement of, or a reasonable expectation of, the development of a record of successful performance as a Professional Librarian, with a demonstration of a mastery of the skills and techniques of Librarianship as evidenced by effectiveness of professional performance; and evidence of the ability to develop and extend professional, disciplinary, and management expertise. In addition, the candidate should show some evidence, or the expectation, of research and professional development in one or more of the following areas: (a) Academic achievement and activities, including additional formal study in Library Science and/or other relevant academic disciplines, programs in continuing education, research, and publication. (b) Involvement in professional activities and participation in professional organizations including service on committees, the presentation of papers, the organization of and participation in conferences, seminars, and workshops. (c) Contributions to the Library, the University, or the community.
