Common use of Importance of Training Clause in Contracts

Importance of Training. The Parties recognize the need to maintain continuing support of the programs designed to develop adequate numbers of competent workers in the construction industry, the obligation to capitalize on the availability of the local workforce in the area served by SDCCD, and the opportunities to provide continuing work on Covered Projects for current and former SDCCD students, graduates, and Local Residents. To these ends, and consistent with any laws or regulations, the Parties will facilitate, encourage, and assist current and former SDCCD students, graduates, and Local Residents to commence and progress in Apprenticeship Programs and/or apprenticeship readiness programs in the construction industry leading to participation in such Joint-Labor Management Apprenticeship Programs. The Project Labor Coordinator, the Contractors, SDCCD, and the Council and Unions, will work cooperatively to identify, or establish and maintain, effective programs and procedures for persons interested in entering the construction industry and which will help prepare them for entry into Apprenticeship Programs. Apprentices, if utilized, must be enrolled in a California Apprenticeship Council-approved Program.

To these ends, and consistent with any laws or regulations, the Parties and Contractors will facilitate, encourage, and assist current Disadvantaged Workers and former SDCCD students, graduates, Targeted Workers in enrolling in and Local Residents to commence and progress in progressing through Apprenticeship Programs and/or apprenticeship readiness programs in the construction industry leading that lead to participation in such Joint-Labor Management Apprenticeship Programs. The SANDAG, the Project Labor Coordinator, other SANDAG consultants, the Contractors, SDCCD, and the Council and Unions, will work cooperatively to identify, or establish and maintain, effective programs and procedures for persons interested in entering the construction industry and which will help prepare them for the entry into Apprenticeship Programs. Apprentices, if utilized, must be enrolled in a California Apprenticeship Council-approved Program.
