The "Lateral Moves" clause defines the conditions under which an employee may be transferred to a different position at the same organizational level within a company. Typically, this clause outlines the process for such transfers, including notification requirements, eligibility criteria, and whether the employee’s compensation or benefits will be affected. For example, an employee in one department might be reassigned to a similar role in another department without a change in rank or pay. The core function of this clause is to provide flexibility for the employer to reallocate personnel as needed while maintaining transparency and fairness for employees.
Lateral Moves. A lateral move is defined as less than 8 percent higher and less than 10 percent lower when comparing market rates between the former position and the new position. Employees making lateral moves may receive at TVA’s discretion, up to a five percent increase in their basic annual salary rate, not to exceed 120 percent of the market rate for the new position.
Lateral Moves. All college course credits and CEU activities specified or referred to in the plan may be used to move laterally on the salary schedule as well as for the Growth Incentive. Lateral Moves. An officer who transfers to the Bellingham Police Department after being a POST Certified full-time officer at another agency may, upon hiring, be credited for some or all their years of service from the previous agency for the purpose of computing their position in the steps of compensation and their accrued vacation leave. However, at no time will the transferred accrued time exceed the maximum earned vacation as outlined in the current Agreement.

Lateral Moves. When an employee from another bargaining unit accepts a lateral move into a class covered by this Agreement, the employee shall be placed at the minimum of the new paygrade or their current pay rate, whichever is higher. However, the appropriate Director and the Director of Employee Services may approve a higher pay, if the employee possesses training, education, and/or experience above the minimum requirements for the classification of up to fifteen percent (15%) above the grade minimum. If an increase of more than fifteen percent (15%) is requested, the appropriate Chief/General Manager/Vice President and the Chief Human Resources Officer must also approve it.

Employee initiated changes to a different position within the same job classification are subject to the following: At the discretion of the division, caretakers may not be allowed more than one (1) lateral move in an eighteen (18) month period. At the discretion of the division, cleaners may not be allowed more than one (1) lateral move in any one school year. All employees will be entitled to bid on any opening at any time on a higher job classification.
