Layoff by Classification. In reduction of work force, the employee with the highest seniority within a job classification series shall be retained provided he has the immediate skill and ability to perform the job(s) to which he is assigned and the employee with the lowest seniority within a job classification series shall be laid off. Management retains the right to determine within which classification or classifications layoffs shall be made. No employee shall be laid off prior to the end of his scheduled workday.
