Common use of Layoff Defined Clause in Contracts

Layoff Defined. A layoff is defined as the anticipated and on-going or prolonged reduction in the number of full- time equivalent (FTE) positions or in the number of partial FTEs within the County, Sheriff’s Office or within a job classification covered by this Agreement. A reduction in force in classification may occur for reasons of lack of funds, lack of work, efficiency or reorganization. Reductions in force are identified by classification within the Sheriff’s Office. Layoff shall be by inverse order of seniority in the classification involved according to the procedures in the Civil Service Rules and this Agreement unless special job skills exist.
