Leave Without. An employee who intends to request adoption leave shall notify the Employer as soon as the application for adoption has been approved by the adoption agency. An employee may request adoption leave without pay at least four weeks prior to the acceptance of custody of a child below the age of majority unless there is a valid reason why that notice cannot be given. The employee shall be granted adoption leave without pay for a period of up to thirty-seven weeks beginning on or after such acceptance of custody.. Such leave shall be taken within the fifty-two weeks following the date of acceptance of custody. The Employer may: defer the commencement of adoption leave without pay at the request of an employee;
