Letters of Direction. A. A letter of direction is not a disciplinary action but may be used to document the need to take disciplinary action. B. A letter of direction shall stay in the file of the principal/supervisor. If it becomes necessary, a copy may be forwarded to the appropriate regional assistant superintendent. C. At the request of a MBU, a letter of direction shall be removed from the principal/supervisor and regional assistant superintendent file provided: 1. The action leading to the letter of direction, or any related action, has not been repeated in a one-year period following the letter of direction; 2. No other letter of direction has been placed in the principal/supervisor and regional assistant superintendent file in a one-year period following the letter of direction. D. When a MBU transfers or relocates, said letter may be transmitted to the files of the site administrator only after the transfer or relocation has been completed. E. A letter of direction will not be used for conduct towards students that is deemed highly inappropriate by a reasonable person's standard, and/or which may be constructed as criminal. For such conduct, a letter of reprimand or more serious discipline is warranted.
