Mentor Program. a. Each new Bargaining Unit Member (first year employee) shall be assigned a mentor. An exception may be made, as determined by the Superintendent, for new part-time Bargaining unit Members of whom have prior service in the same program operated by the Board. d. All new probationary educators will be required to nominate one complete the professional learning component of the candidates mentor program within four (4) years.
e. Credit for the required in-district courses (up to 6 credit hours) and the Board New Educator Academy (2 credit hours) shall be applied toward salary schedule lane changes up to a total of Education eight (8) credit hours. (3) Once a Mentor accepts the position, he/Resident Educator Coordinator and appropriate Directors shall submit nominations of she will continue in that position for the first three (3) qualified staff members years of the probationary period unless released from the assignment: (i) by the administration, or (ii) by the administration at the request of either the Mentor or the Probationary employee.
(4) Either the ▇▇▇▇▇ or the Probationary employee may request to terminate the Mentor- Probationary employee relationship if, in either party’s opinion, the relationship is not productive. Additional Mentors may be assigned to veteran teachers who is newer to our district and not applicable to Section 1526.
(7) At least one-half (1/2) day per semester shall be granted upon request of the Mentor teachers or the Probationary employee to allow for additional meetings, team teaching, classroom observations, and mentoring activities. Said release time shall certify that they have spent a minimum be granted at times approved by the building administrator. Additional release time may be granted on other occasions at the building administrator’s discretion. Release time shall not normally occur during the last five (5) weeks of 15 hours during the school year in mentor training without the building administrator’s approval.
(8) The Mentor teacher shall complete a Mentor Program Form supplied by the District documenting all meeting times between Mentor and working with their assigned new Bargaining Unit MemberProbationary employee during the semester/year. Mentor Program. a. Each new Bargaining Unit Member (3.22.1 The mentor program shall provide tenured teachers the opportunity to guide first year employee) District 230 employees. This program shall provide teachers newly employed by District 230 with necessary daily routine procedures, subject matter preparation and materials, department procedures, district/board policies, evaluation procedures, discipline procedures, professional behavior and such other topics as the District with input from the Association, deems appropriate.
3.22.2 Only tenured teachers shall be assigned eligible to be Mentors or Mentor Coordinators. Staff participation in this program as Mentor or Mentor Coordinator shall be voluntary. Mentors or Coordinators shall not be considered evaluators for the purposes of the protégé formal evaluation. Protégé participants shall be defined as a mentorteacher’s first year of employment into District 230. An exception Teachers new to the teaching profession shall be required to participate. Experienced teachers new to District 230 shall participate at either: 1) the request of the District or 2) the request of the teacher.
3.22.3 The Mentor Coordinators stipend shall be an annual sum of $1000. The Mentor’s annual stipend shall be $500 per protégé. Mentors and Coordinators shall participate in the District Summer Mentor in-service program. This programs activities will consist of two one- half days of four hours each. Mentors and Coordinators shall be paid an hourly curricular summer school rate per contract for the summer in-service program. The District shall pay the summer stipends in the “extra pay period” in December.
3.22.4 Mentors shall be released on an occasional basis for mentoring activities, such as classroom observation, preparation for protégé evaluation and significant meeting related to mentoring, subject to pre-approval by the building principal. Protégé release time shall not generally be required, but may be made, as determined granted by the Superintendent, building principal.
3.22.5 Credit for new part-time Bargaining unit Members of whom have prior service in the same program operated Mentor Coordinator and Mentor Activities are governed by the Boardlaw pursuant to the Illinois Teacher License Renewal Process. The mentor Mentoring activities shall assist be eligible for PD Hours within the new Bargaining Unit Member in general teaching procedures, techniques, classroom planning and organization, school functions and regulations and other areas requirements of professional growth and development. All hours will be recorded on a timeslip or log and can be used as professional development for both parties. The Building Principal or his/her designee may remove a PA or IA from the role of mentor for just cause. In a case where a mentor is removed or resigns from their role prior to full completion of all required activities, the Lead Mentor mentor will receive two (2) days extended time to work with new teachers and be compensated in a pro-rated fashion. i. At least two (2) years individuals per mentor position. This posting requirement will be waived in instances of successful teaching experience at TollesPrograms of Assistance for Improvement and Improvement Plans.
ii. A variety of teaching experienceC. No member shall be designated as a mentor unless willing to perform in that role.
iiiD. A mentor can only have one mentee except in unusual situations in which the District has determined only one mentor is qualified or available to work with two mentees. An ability and willingness to help improve another teacherIn that case the mentor will receive hourly compensation (thirty dollars ($30.00)) for each mentee.
c. Mentors E. No mentor shall attend one or two participate, at any level, in the evaluation of the mentee.
F. The District will provide a qualified substitute for the mentor when necessary to fulfill mentor obligations as per State Department regulations and/or District guidelines. The District may, at its discretion, provide professional leave days to support the mentorship process.
G. The District will specify in its job description the number of hours it will pay for performance of the required duties during the contracted days of each school year. The District will pay each mentor no less than thirty dollars (2$30.00) training seminars held for each hour spent per mentee in performance of the specified duties during the contracted school year. The District may offer hours of work at a different rate of pay for the time spent outside the regular workday. The Association President in collaboration with contracted school year, but the Lead Mentor/Resident Educator Coordinator and appropriate Directors will draft a list of tasks which mentors are to perform.
d. Mentor teachers shall certify that they have spent a minimum of 15 hours during the school year in mentor training and working with their assigned new Bargaining Unit Member. The new Bargaining Unit Member bargaining unit member may make written application to the Superintendent for up to 15 hours additional mentor serviceaccept or decline such work. The mentor teacher, the new Bargaining Unit Member, and the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee, will meet to discuss a plan of action for is not precluded from submitting additional hours requested. Mentor teachers shall be and being paid for them if the documented work hours at office of human resources authorizes payment. In the hourly rate event that a mentor position is funded through the provisions of a special grant, but the grant allowance for pay is less than thirty dollars ($30. I. Although the mentor program is intended primarily for teachers who are new to the District, the Lead Mentor will receive District may offer a mentor for any member in the District. A member who is not new to the District may, without explanation or recrimination, decline the District’s offer of a mentor. This language shall not prevent the use of peer assistance when appropriate.
J. A mentor may resign at any time during the first two (2) months of the assignment by giving five (5) days extended time to work with new teachers and the administration before the regular instructional year for the purpose of training new staff members notice. Mentors may submit resignations later in the successful use event of: 1) an emergency, 2) an unplanned leave of absence, 3) irreconcilable differences with the teacher handbookmentee. The mentee, school regulationsduring the first two (2) months, and operational proceduresmay request from the principal a different mentor with five (5) days notice. The mentor in each instance shall be paid for hours completed.
