Native Load Clause Samples

The Native Load clause defines the obligations and rights of a utility or energy provider to prioritize the supply of electricity to its existing customers, often referred to as 'native load,' before fulfilling other contractual or market-based commitments. In practice, this means that the utility can reserve a portion of its generation or transmission capacity to ensure reliable service to its long-standing customers, such as residential or local business users, even if it has other agreements to sell power elsewhere. This clause is essential for maintaining service reliability and protecting the utility’s core customer base from potential shortages or disruptions caused by external sales or unforeseen demand spikes.
