Common use of Open Routes Clause in Contracts

Open Routes. 14 1. An open route occurs when a driver is terminated, promoted, resigns, or 15 changes route. The open route shall be offered in order of seniority to all 16 qualified and available drivers. 17 2. An open route will be assigned to the most senior driver within his/her 18 workday who expresses an interest in changing routes. That driver’s 19 route will then become an open route. 20 3. Bus drivers will retain the right to request an open route that is available 21 as often as they desire. 22 4. If a route is increased by thirty (30) minutes or more, and it is 23 apparent that the change will continue for more than nineteen (19) 24 consecutive days, the increased hours will be offered to drivers in 25 order of seniority within hourly assignment. If the route is increased 26 due to classroom overloads, such increase shall not be offered by 27 seniority and shall continue as long as the route requires or until the 28 end of school, whichever occurs first.
