Ownership of Records and Data Clause Samples

The "Ownership of Records and Data" clause establishes which party retains legal rights to documents, information, and data generated or exchanged during the course of an agreement. Typically, this clause specifies whether the client, service provider, or both have ownership or usage rights over records such as reports, databases, or client files created during the engagement. It may also outline procedures for returning or destroying data upon contract termination. The core function of this clause is to prevent disputes by clearly defining data ownership, ensuring both parties understand their rights and responsibilities regarding the use, retention, and protection of records and data.
