12.02 Full-time employees required to work on a paid holiday shall have the option of either:
(a) Pay at the rate of two times (2x) the employee's regular rate of pay for work performed on such holiday, in addition to the employee's regular pay, or
(b) Pay at the rate of two times (2x) the employee's regular rate for work performed on such holiday and an alternate day off with pay at a time that is mutually agreed upon between the Employer and the employee. The alternate day off is to be taken within six (6) months after the holiday upon mutual agreement between the Employer and Employee.
12.03 If a paid holiday falls within a full-time employee’s normal schedule/rotation they shall have the option to either work the holiday with the appropriate pay or to request the holiday off, subject to operational requirements. Requests for the holiday off must be made prior to the work schedule being posted for that period.
12.04 In order to qualify for pay for a holiday, an employee shall complete her full shift on each of the scheduled working days immediately preceding and following the holiday concerned unless excused by the Employer or the employee was absent due to:
(a) approved sick leave;
(b) vacation granted by the Employer;
(c) the employee's regular scheduled day off;
(d) a paid leave of absence provided the employee is not otherwise compensated for the holiday.
(a) Where a holiday falls on an employee's scheduled day off, an additional day off with pay will be scheduled at a mutually acceptable time.
(b) Where a holiday falls during an employee's scheduled vacation period, her vacation shall be extended by one (1) day unless the employee and the Employer agree to schedule a different day off with pay.
12.06 A tour that begins or ends during the twenty-four (24) hour period of the above holidays, where the majority of hours worked falls within the holiday, shall be deemed to be work performed on the holiday for the full period of the tour.

(b) If another Federal, Provincial or Municipal holiday should be proclaimed during the term of this Agreement, such additional proclaimed holiday will replace one of the above named holidays as agreed by the parties. The intent is that there will be no more than twelve (12) paid holidays per calendar year for the duration of this agreement.
(c) In a Home where float holidays exist, in order to qualify for the float holidays, a newly hired employee must have completed their probationary period to be eligible.
PAID HOLIDAYS. 16.01 An employee will be paid the employee’s regular rate of pay for the following holidays: New Year’s Day Labour Day August Civic Holiday Good Friday Thanksgiving Day Christmas Day Victoria Day Canada Day Boxing Day In each calendar year, each employee who has completed their probationary period is entitled to three (3) paid floater holidays to be taken as follows: The employee must notify the Company, in writing, at least two weeks in advance of the requested floater day. The floater day will be approved subject to operational requirements. In the event of a conflict between two employees requesting the same floater day, preference will be given to the employee who 1st made the request. If the employee passes probation any time from October 1 or after, they shall have the remaining months of that year plus the next twelve (12) months to take their floating days. The company will respond in writing to all requested floater days. For float day requests submitted outside of CBA guidelines a minimum two weeks’ notice shall be given and responded to in writing within two business days of received request. Last minute requests submitted in writing shall be responded to in writing.
16.02 An employee who is required to work on any of the holidays listed in Article 16.01 shall be paid at time and one-half (1 1/2) the employee’s straight hourly rate for all hours so worked, and in addition, the employee will receive holiday pay, if entitled, to the payment provided in Section 16.01.
16.03 An employee who is absent on vacation when a paid holiday occurs, as listed in Section 16.01, will receive an extra day’s vacation added to the end of the said vacation period. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the employee and the Company may agree to an alternate date. Employees shall, at their request, forfeit extra days of vacation and receive one full day’s pay at their normal regular hours and hourly rate.
a) In the event that any of the holidays listed above fall on Saturday or Sunday, it will be granted on either the preceding Friday or the following Monday as per the Company’s operating schedule except where in Bargaining Unit 333-29 it may be changed by mutual agreement between the Union and the Company. b) Furthermore, if a paid holiday falls on a workday other than a Monday or Friday, the Company will post a notice if the holiday will be observed on a day other than the one on which it falls.

PAID HOLIDAYS. (Articles 15.01 to 15.07 apply to full-time nurses only)
15.01 A nurse who otherwise qualifies under Article 15.02 hereunder shall receive twelve (12) paid holidays as designated in the Appendix of Local Provisions. In the event that the Provincial Government declares an additional holiday (such as Heritage Day) during the term of this Agreement, such holiday will be substituted for one of the above-mentioned holidays. The designation of the additional holiday for an existing holiday shall be subject to local determination and such designation shall not add to the present number of holidays.
15.02 In order to qualify for pay for a holiday, a nurse shall complete her or his full scheduled shift on each of the working days immediately preceding and following the holiday concerned unless excused by the Hospital or the nurse was absent due to:
(a) legitimate illness or accident which commenced within a month of the date of the holiday;
(b) vacation granted by the Hospital;
(c) the nurse's regular scheduled day off;
(d) a paid leave of absence provided the nurse is not otherwise compensated for the holiday. A nurse entitled to holiday pay hereunder shall not receive sick leave pay to which she or he may otherwise have been entitled unless she or he was scheduled to work that day. A nurse receiving WSIB benefits for the day of the holiday shall, subject to the above provisions, be entitled to the difference between the amount of the Workers' Compensation Benefits and the holiday pay.
15.03 Holiday pay will be computed on the basis of the nurse's regular straight time hourly rate of pay times the number of hours for a normal daily tour as set out in Article 13.01 (a).
15.04 Subject to Article 15.02:
(a) Where a holiday falls during a nurse's scheduled vacation period, the nurse's vacation shall be extended by one (1) day unless the nurse and the Hospital agree to schedule a different day off with pay.
(b) Where a holiday falls on a nurse's scheduled day off an additional day off with pay will be scheduled.
15.05 A nurse required to work on any of the foregoing holidays shall be paid at the rate of time and one-half (1-1/2) the nurse's regular straight time hourly rate of pay for all hours worked on such holiday subject to Article 14.04. In addition, the nurse will receive a lieu day off with pay in the amount of her or his regular straight time hourly rate of pay times the number of hours in a normal daily tour as set out in Article 13.01 (a).
PAID HOLIDAYS.
(a) The following have been designated as paid holidays: New Year's Day British Columbia Day Family Day Labour Day Good Friday Thanksgiving Day Easter Monday Remembrance Day Victoria Day Christmas Day Canada Day Boxing Day
(b) Any other holiday proclaimed as a holiday by the federal government or the government of the Province of British Columbia shall also be a paid holiday.

17.02 Where any of the above holidays fall on a Saturday or Sunday, an alternate day shall be designated by the Employer as a holiday in lieu of the holiday falling on these days.
(a) An eligible full-time employee shall receive her regular daily pay at her basic rate for each paid holiday.
(b) Part-time employees shall receive four point eight percent (4.8%) in lieu of paid holidays.
17.04 To be eligible for holiday pay an employee must work the full scheduled work day immediately preceding and the full scheduled work day immediately following such holiday, unless the employee is otherwise on an approved paid leave of absence. If an employee is absent on either the last work day preceding, or the first work day following the paid holiday due to illness, the employee shall be eligible for pay for the holiday. A medical doctor’s certificate may be required at the discretion of the Employer.
17.05 No employee who is absent from work due to:
(a) Workplace Safety and Insurance Claim;
(b) Short-term disability;
(c) Long-term disability; or
(d) Lay-off shall be entitled to pay for any paid holiday occurring within the period of such absence.
17.06 No employee who is absent from work due to a pregnancy and/or parental leave shall be entitled to pay for any paid holiday occurring within the period of such absence except in accordance with the Employment Standards Act.
17.07 Where the paid holiday occurs in the period in which a full-time employee is on her scheduled vacation, or on a scheduled day off, an eligible employee shall receive a day off with pay in lieu at a mutually agreed time.
17.08 An eligible employee required to work on a paid holiday shall be allowed compensating time off without loss of pay, at a rate of one (1) hour time off for every authorized hour worked at a mutually agreeable date. Such lieu time off shall be subject to the conditions outlined in Article 13, paragraph 13.
01. The employee shall also receive payment at the rate of time and one-half (1½) her regular rate of pay for each hour worked on the paid holiday.
PAID HOLIDAYS. 12.01 All nurses shall receive the following holidays without loss of pay: New Year's Day Civic Holiday *Heritage Day Labour Day Good Friday Thanksgiving Day Easter Monday Remembrance Day Victoria Day Christmas Day Canada Day Boxing Day * (to be celebrated 2nd Monday in February unless and until otherwise designated by government proclamation.)
(a) Where a full-time nurse works on a holiday she shall receive premium pay at the rate of time and one-half (1½) for the first seven and one-half (7½) hours worked on such a holiday and shall receive another day off with pay, such day to be at a mutually agreeable time or at the option of the nurse;
(b) She shall receive premium pay at the rate of two and one-half (2½) times for the first seven and one-half (7½) hours worked on such holiday.
(c) In order for a full-time nurse to be eligible for holiday pay or lieu time in accordance to the above, the nurse must:
i) work her scheduled tour immediately preceding and following such paid holiday unless absent due to legitimate illness or approved vacation or leave of absence; and
ii) have worked or been on scheduled vacation or approved paid leave of absence (for greater clarity, excluding pregnancy/parental leave) on at least twelve (12) tours in the thirty day period preceding the holiday.
(d) Where a part-time nurse works on a holiday as listed in Article 12.01, she shall receive pay at the rate of time and one-half (1½) for the first seven and one-half (7½) hours worked on such a holiday.

12.04 When a holiday falls within a nurse's vacation period, it shall be added to the end of her vacation or scheduled at a mutually agreeable time.
PAID HOLIDAYS. 19.01 The Board agrees to pay each full-time employee a sum equivalent to the employee's current daily rate of pay for the following holidays: New Year's Day Labour Day Good Friday Thanksgiving Day Easter Monday Remembrance Day Victoria Day Christmas Day Dominion Day Boxing Day August Civic Holiday Heritage Day under the following conditions: The holiday must fall on a regular working day which the employee would have normally worked if the day had not been a holiday. The employee must be at work the full scheduled shift prior to and following the day of the holiday and provided such shifts are in the immediately preceding and immediately following week. The only exception to the above would be for leave of absence granted in writing or proven illness either the day before or the day after the holiday period. Notwithstanding the above, if a holiday falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, the employee will be granted a day's pay or a lieu day with pay at the option of the Board.
19.02 Time off with pay will be granted on the working day preceding Christmas and on the working day preceding New Year's Day effective from 12:00 Noon. This will apply to the Administration staff only. It is understood, however, that school employees will leave when school is dismissed for the Christmas vacation and at the time determined by the Principal, such time not to be more than one (1) hour following dismissal.
19.03 It is clearly understood that employees employed on a less than twelve (12) month basis will not receive Civic Holiday or Labour Day Holiday pay unless they meet the requirements under Section 19.01.
19.04 If Heritage Day and/or Remembrance Day are not declared, a floating holiday(s) shall be granted in each year of the agreement on a date(s) to be mutually agreed between the Board and the Union. The Board agrees that the floating holiday(s) referred to above shall be granted for elementary school secretaries between Christmas and New Years.
19.05 Remembrance Day and Heritage Day as set out in Section 19.01 will be eliminated for Secondary School employees and substituted to allow for the continuation of Section 17.01 (c) for the same group.
PAID HOLIDAYS. 1. The Company will pay to all employees, their regular rate of pay for ten (10) paid holidays in each year of the contract if so qualified, or at a minimum per the Employment Standards Act as per the following schedule: New Year's Day Civic Holiday Family Day Labour Day Good Friday Thanksgiving Day Victoria Day Christmas Day Canada Day Boxing Day Plus, three (3) floating holidays starting first year, scheduled in accordance with production requirements. Floating holidays may be used for call-in purposes for an emergency leave as defined in the Employment Standards Act or alternatively, they can be utilized for time off booked in advance. The Company will respond to advance floating holiday requests within two (2) days of receipt of such request. Advance floating holidays are awarded on a first come first serve basis.
2. To be eligible for holiday pay, you must work both the full regularly scheduled workday immediately preceding and immediately following the holiday. Absence on these qualifying days will be excused when the employee has obtained written permission from his or her immediate supervisor prior to the holiday. Excused absences will be at the Company's discretion. Proven unavoidable tardiness up to a maximum of one (1) hour will be accepted.
3. An employee required to work on any paid holiday is to receive two (2) times the employee's regular hourly rate in addition to regular pay.
4. Laid off employees will be eligible for holiday pay if they are laid off within fifteen (15) working days of the observance of the holiday.
5. If a holiday falls on a working day during an employee's vacation, he or she will receive a day's pay for such holiday in addition to his or her vacation pay, and will be granted an additional day off work.
6. For pay purposes, when any of the above holidays fall during the period when an employee is covered by short-term disability benefits, the employee will be paid $64.00 for the holiday pay by the group insurance carrier and the Company will pay the additional amount to ensure those employees affected receive full holiday pay. Employees who are receiving long term disability (LTD) or Workers' Compensation benefits will not receive holiday pay.
7. Backup employees who have worked both the full regularly scheduled work day immediately preceding and immediately following the holiday, in their backup classification will be paid the rate of that classification for the holiday.
