Based on the material properties of the bulb turbines at the Rance tidal power plant, the runners are assumed to be manufactured in conventional Stainless Steel, SS 17-4 H1075, with a yield strength of 1020 MPA, and ultimate strength of 1130 MPA. The FEA showed that the maximum von-Mises stress occurs at the hub for both the runners, and the maximum value is 151 MPA. This means that the safety factor to the yield strength is above 6.7, and the risk of failure of the runners is thus low.
