POLYETHYLENE ENCASEMENT (PIPE WRAP. A. Polyethylene encasement shall be a high-density, cross-laminated polyethylene film with a minimum thickness of 0.008 inches (8 mils) and conforming to AWWA C105. The film shall be black with 2 percent (2%) carbon black, be weather-resistant, and have product markings as defined in AWWA C105. Polyethylene encasement shall be furnished in either flat tube or sheet form. B. Tape for installation of polyethylene encasement on pipe and fittings and for the field repair of missing or damaged film shall be suitable for use with polyethylene, a minimum of 2 inches wide, and have a minimum thickness of 0.010 inches (10 mils). Tape shall be Polyken #900 Utility Pipeline Tape, Scotchrap 50 All-Weather Corrosion Protection Tape, or approved equal. Duct tape is not permitted. C. Store polyethylene encasement material in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and in such a manner that it is not exposed to direct sunlight. Exposure during installation shall not exceed forty-eight (48) hours.
