PROCEDURES FOR DEVELOPMENT OF SCHOOL CALENDAR. A committee shall be established to meet annually upon the call of the Superintendent to recommend to the Board a school calendar. A. Procedures to Follow in Determining the Yearly Calendar 1. Absent extenuating circumstances (i.e. government order, public safety issue, delayed construction of school building or project) that prevent the School District and/or a school building from starting and ending the contractual work year/student instructional year as set forth below, the first contractual day will start no earlier than August 10th and the last student day will be no later than May 31st. If these starting or ending dates need to be adjusted, the Board shall provide Association members advance notice promptly following the occurrence of the circumstances necessitating such change. If extenuating circumstances prevent the School District and/or a school building from starting and ending within the dates above, the Parties mutually agree to change the calendar through a Memorandum of Understanding. Unit members will not be required to work: Labor Day ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ Day Thanksgiving and the following Friday Good Friday Last weekday before Christmas Spring Break Winter Break Memorial Day New Year’s Day 2. The Calendar Committee shall consist of the Superintendent/designee and another representative of the Administrative staff, the Pickerington Education Association President/designee, and one (1) Board Member. 3. The committee shall follow federal and state mandates in the development of the school calendar and shall be responsible for identifying teacher conference days and make-up days. 4. The recommendation of the calendar committee may be rejected by the Board and may be returned to the committee. The Board has the final authority to establish the calendar.
