Professional Librarians. 4.4.1 The professional library staff shall have faculty status and equivalent rank, but contract appointments may differ from those of other University faculty in length of appointment (up to twelve (12) months/year), salary and vacation periods in accordance with the needs of the University and the normal practices of the profession. As a general policy, new appointments will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor. A new appointment may be made at the rank of Associate Professor, if the candidate meets the paper qualifications for the rank, and the application has the support of the ▇▇▇▇ and the Library Faculty Personnel Committee. 4.4.2 Original appointment of candidates who do not meet the paper qualifications at the rank of Associate Professor and all original appointments at the rank of Full Professor may be approved upon recommendation of the Library Faculty Personnel Committee and only when the candidates possess outstanding qualifications which are essential for carrying out an effective program.
