PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS. A. All teachers employed by the Genesee School District must posses a Valid Michigan Provisional, Permanent, Continuing or Professional Certificate or the appropriate license. The employment of new teachers whose certification is anything less than a Valid Michigan Provisional, Permanent, Continuing or Professional Certificate or the appropriate license is to be permitted only in a case of absolute necessity and by mutual consent of the Association and the Board. In each instance the Board shall indicate the extent to which it has endeavored to fill the position with a fully certified person. No person whose certification is based on less than a Valid Michigan Provisional, Permanent, Continuing or Professional Certificate or the appropriate license shall be employed in a regular full time position for more than one year. The individual contract shall provide for immediate termination in the event a person with a Valid Provisional, Permanent, Continuing or Professional Certificate or appropriate license is hired for that position. B. Teachers shall not be assigned outside the scope of their teaching certificates except temporarily and for good cause, and the Association shall be so notified in writing in each instance, along with written statement of reasons for such misassignment. Temporary shall be defined for purposes of this Article as not to extend beyond the current school year. C. All teachers shall be given written notice of their schedules for the forthcoming year no later than the preceding first day of June. In the event that changes in such schedule are proposed, all teachers affected shall be notified promptly and consulted. In no event will changes in teachers’ schedules be made later than the 15th day of August preceding the commencement of the school year, unless an emergency situation requires same, and the Association shall be notified in writing in each instance. Any assignments in addition to the normal teaching schedule during the regular school year, including Adult Education courses, driver education, and extra duties enumerated in Appendix B, and summer school courses, shall not be obligatory but shall be with the consent of the teacher. Bargaining unit representatives shall be guaranteed on all school improvement committees and/or all site based decision-making programs not constituted of specifically bargained positions. Such representatives shall be chosen by the bargaining unit. Whenever possible, these entities shall meet within the regular workday. F. Student teacher assignments shall not be obligatory, but shall be with the consent of the teacher. Preference in making such assignments will be based on seniority and area of certification. Student teachers will be assigned to teachers with at least three years experience in the grade level and or subject area.
