Common use of Purpose and Principles Clause in Contracts

Purpose and Principles. The purpose of this Article is to provide a mutually acceptable method for prompt and equitable settlement of grievances. Employee(s) and their representatives will be free from restraint, interference, coercion, discrimination, or reprisal in airing a grievance and seeking its adjudication. The Employer and the Union recognize the importance of settling grievances promptly, fairly, and in a manner that will maintain the self-respect of the employee(s) and be consistent with the principles of management. To accomplish this, and because most grievances arise from misunderstandings or disputes that can be settled promptly and satisfactorily on an informal basis at the immediate supervisory level, every effort will be made to settle grievances expeditiously and at the lowest level of supervision.
