Reduction Sequence (Employee Functional Areas Clause Samples

The Reduction Sequence (Employee Functional Areas) clause defines the order in which employees from different functional areas are selected for workforce reductions or layoffs. Typically, this clause outlines a hierarchy or set of criteria—such as seniority, job performance, or specific departmental needs—that determines which employees are affected first. For example, it may specify that reductions will begin in non-essential departments before impacting core operational teams. The core function of this clause is to provide a transparent and fair process for workforce reductions, minimizing disputes and ensuring that the organization can retain critical skills and functions during downsizing.
