Right of Organization. All officers who have completed their assigned academy shall have the right, but shall not be required, to join the LPOA. Officers that have completed their trial performance period, as determined by the Chief of Police, may become participating members in the LPOA. Notwithstanding the foregoing, membership in the LPOA shall not afford the LPOA the right to represent any such officer in a grievance process unless such officer has completed their trial performance period as determined by the Chief, not to include newly promoted detectives, who shall have the right to be represented by the LPOA.
