SCOPE OF THE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT VALUE CHAIN. This section outlines the regional value chain for electrical equipment. The electrical equipment value chain is composed of research and development (R&D), raw materials and inputs to electrical equipment components, final product assembly for a range of end market groups, and the final consumers of finished products. In addition, the paper also discusses the manufacturing capabilities and gaps along the value chain for each of the three countries in this study – South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Understanding the regional value chain should point to improvements in the regional division of labour and opportunities to develop new industries.
