Secondary Teaching Load. Unless altered by the SLT process, the normal teaching load for secondary school teachers shall be five (5) teaching periods per day, or the equivalent thereof if block scheduling is used. A teacher may request to teach a sixth period.

Secondary Teaching Load. Under block scheduling, the normal weekly teaching load at the secondary level shall not exceed twenty (20) teaching periods, and each secondary teacher shall have five (5) unassigned preparation periods per week. Under traditional scheduling, the normal weekly teaching load at the secondary level shall not exceed thirty (30) teaching periods, and each secondary teacher shall have five (5) unassigned preparation periods per week. Secondary Teaching Load. 1. The normal daily teaching load in the secondary schools shall not exceed four (4) teaching periods on a 5 x 5 block schedule without extra compensation.
a. This extra compensation is to be calculated as a prorated portion of the individual teacher’s regular contracted teaching salary for that year.
2. When required to have more than four (4) subject preparations per semester the individual teacher will be compensated an additional four hundred dollars ($400.00) per semester per extra preparation.
3. When a teacher voluntarily agrees to teach a class during the time contractually allotted for a planning period, the teacher shall be compensated for such extra work by paying the teacher 1/6 of his/her contracted classroom salary for the teacher per year for each year of service, to be prorated for each fractional year of said service.
Secondary Teaching Load. After the initial staffing allocation each spring, the principal, in consultation with all certificated staff, will prioritize the placement of staff for the upcoming school year. These plans will include alternative placement scenarios in the event of an increase or decrease in student enrollment and/or staffing allocations.
Section 40.1 Middle School Academic Core teachers who average 34 or more students in their core academic classes will be paid for 5 additional days planning time (40 hours at the Professional Rate per hour) i.e., 2.5 days or 20 hours per semester. Class size computations will be made on the last day of the third full week of each semester. Overload compensation shall be retroactive to the beginning of the term. See MoA Page 152 RE 40.1 The district continues to place a high priority on maintaining middle school class sizes that are instructionally sound and consider state class size recommendations. Any unresolved class size concerns (i.e., class size, class composition, 504/IEP) will be brought to the attention of the Mutual Interest Committee. The Superintendent will make the final decision regarding staffing of District schools.

The English Department will work with the administration to develop a plan to accomplish this and publicize this plan to students and parents. A teaching period shall be considered to be forty-five (45) minutes. A teacher may request to teach a sixth period. Any teacher teaching more than five periods per day shall receive one and one-half (1.5) times their per diem rate as defined in Article 32, for each period above five. 8-5-1-1 The maximum class size in grades six (6) through twelve (12) shall not exceed thirty-five (35) twenty (20) students under any circumstance. In no case shall a teacher have a total greater than 175 100 students per day unless an exception is provided for in Article 8-5-1-2. 8-5-1-1-1 Any class composed primarily of second language learners and/or students with disabilities and/or students covered by a 501 plan; and/or other high needs designation shall require lower appropriate class size. Secondary Teaching Load. When the District operates on a nine (9) period-based schedule, it is the goal of the District to provide a five (5) period teaching day or on average about 230 minutes. In the event that the district assigns 6th teaching period, The District will make every effort to compensate by reducing extra duties. When the District operates on a ten (10) period-based schedule, it is the goal of the District to provide a six (6) period teaching day or on average about 230 minutes. In the event that the District assigns a 7th teaching period, the district will make every effort to compensate by reducing extra duties. In the event that the District assigns an 8th teaching period, the District will look to further reduce duties. When a grade level is housed in the middle school and/or follows the middle school model, those teachers will follow the secondary teaching load.
