Selection and Appointment. 1. Establishment is the recognition of good professional performance in a particular course over a defined period of time. It is the practice of granting preference to those Members for teaching assignments of a course in which they have met the conditions of this Agreement. 2. Sessional staff shall be entitled to Establishment with respect to teaching/co-ordinating for a particular course once they have met the following conditions: a) Have instructed the course a minimum of three times in five consecutive offerings. b) Have received overall satisfactory performance reviews from the President at least three times for the course taught. c) Are not currently subject of any disciplinary proceedings. 3. Sessional Members may apply for Establishment status to the President by June 1st each year on the approved form. 4. Establishment will expire if the Member does not teach/instruct the course during three consecutive offerings. 5. Continuing Establishment a) Continuing Establishment is the recognition of good professional performance in a particular course over a defined period of time. It is the practice of guaranteeing the offering of the course following the pattern established during the past four years. b) Sessional staff shall be entitled to Continuing Establishment with respect to teaching/co-ordinating for a particular course once they have met the following conditions: i. instructed the course with Establishment a minimum of three times in four consecutive offerings; ii. have received overall satisfactory performance reviews from the President during the last three times the course has been taught; and iii. are not currently subject of any disciplinary proceedings. c) In the event that Thorneloe elects not to offer a course for which a Member has Continuing Establishment, Thorneloe will offer another course of similar value that fits within the academic competency(ies) of the Member. d) Continuing Establishment, like Establishment, will expire if the Member does not teach/instruct the course during three consecutive offerings. Members who have achieved establishment and/or continuing establishment in a course will not lose establishment as a result of a change to a course number, title, or a change in the number of credits, as long as the course content goals are not changed. e) Sessional members may apply for Continuing Establishment status to the President by June 1st of each year on the approved form. 6. The required qualifications for bargaining unit work assignments shall be available to Members in the form of Standing Qualifications. a) Each year prior to May 30th, the University shall post on the bulletin board and on an electronic mail out a list of those work assignments available to the bargaining unit. This notice shall indicate the closing date for applications, which shall be at least 21 working days after the posting. The qualifications set by the University shall be available to the Union and to applicants. b) Sessional Members who have not taught/instructed/written courses in a consecutive twenty-four month period shall be deemed to have terminated their right to receive postings as per Article 5.3
