Common use of Seniority Definitions Clause in Contracts

Seniority Definitions. A. System Seniority shall be defined as the length of employment by an employee with the Board as computed from the employee's most recent date of hire. B. Department Seniority shall be defined as the length of employment by an employee in a particular department as computed from the employee's most recent date of entry into such department. C. Job Classification Seniority shall be defined as the length of employment by an employee in a particular job classification as computed from the employee's most recent date of entry into such job classification. Job classification shall correspond with the job classification set forth on the salary schedule as published by the Board of Education. D. Seniority within classification will prevail at all times. E. Any employee who changes classification will only have Job Classification Seniority in the new classification and will start seniority as of the date of transfer. F. Job Classification Seniority shall be considered in work assignments for new openings within a classification. This consideration will be done if at all possible and all parties are equally qualified. G. When a member is on approved leave for periods of thirty (30) consecutive calendar days or less, seniority shall not be affected. Seniority shall not accumulate during approved leaves exceeding thirty (30) consecutive calendar days except those which are for medical leave.
