Services in Scope. The Virtual School for Vulnerable Pupils from the local authority will support the educational achievement and aspirations of children with English as an Additional Language through the following duties: Statutory Duties (not charged) Ensure an education is available for all children of compulsory school age that is appropriate to their age, ability, aptitude and any special needs. This duty is irrespective of a child’s immigration status, country of origin or rights of residence in a particular area. Liaison with Home Office and other local authorities Liaison with admissions team to ensure a school place is available that meets the child’s individual needs Other services (chargeable) Provide direct support to children and young people with EAL Provide direct teaching / language integration in ‘The Hub’ for International new arrivals Plan and carry out transition to mainstream schools in line with the children’s needs Support schools by assessing and monitoring children’s language development Provide in class support to individuals and groups of children Provide language interventions as directed by schools to individuals and groups of children Provide after school language support to individuals and groups of children Track and monitor the attendance, engagement and achievement of children and young people with EAL Provide advice and guidance to schools in relation to supporting children and young people with EAL Attend meetings in relation to children and young people with EAL Provide advice and guidance in relation to individual children, language and immigration status Provide advice and guidance to parents and professionals in relation to education of children and young people with EAL Attend meetings in relation to children and young people with EAL Provide advice and guidance in relation to individual children, language and status e.g. refugees and asylum seekers Provide translation services for initial meetings between schools and parents
