Common use of SHARED PARENTAL LEAVE Clause in Contracts

SHARED PARENTAL LEAVE. Shared Parental Leave is a new legal entitlement for eligible parents of babies due, or children placed for adoption, on or after 5 April 2015. Its aim is to provide greater flexibility to parents in terms of their options and choices in regard to how they might collectively share time off to care for the child during the first year of birth or adoption placement. These provisions link to ‘Maternity Leave’ and ‘Adoption Leave’ provisions, in that the mother/adopter initially takes some time off under these provisions but may now choose to reduce the amount taken and then opt for ‘Shared Parental Leave’. (See the Council’s ‘Shared Parental Leave Guide’ for further details).
