Studying. In order to offer a wider variety of study opportunities, Industrial Union also pro- vides multimode education. Experiences of the Local collective bargaining multi- mode course arranged by Chemical Industry Federation of Finland are used to develop the courses. Some online studies may consist of scheduled instructed online lectures, while other studies are carried out independently according to a plan. The employer pays compensation for lost earnings also for online studies. An instructive time management and progress plan is prepared for online studies, and the student delivers the plan to the teacher of the course. Training pro- grammes may also include joint webinars as well as self-study materials and ex- ercises. In addition, supplementary material may be provided in accordance with the student’s interest. To enable participation in online studies, the employer shall provide the student with access to a computer that is suitably equipped for online studying. Students may also use their own computers. If online studying is carried out in the work- place, the working area is arranged so that it enables undisturbed participation in the training. The websites of the federations include a template that employer and staff rep- resentatives may use to prepare the time management and progress plan.
