Substitute Coverage. 1. The District shall make a reasonable good faith effort to hire regular substitute teacher coverage for the class(es) or any teacher required to attend a District sponsored or approved meeting or activity. The District shall make a reasonable good faith effort to hire regular substitute teachers when classroom, teachers are absent. If, however, the District is unable to find a regular substitute for any absent teacher, the Principal for the school in question shall ask for a volunteer(s) to cover the absent teacher’s class(es). a. At the middle and high school levels, the volunteer unit member that provides period coverage due to an unfilled absence or for participating in an Individualized Education Program (IEP), 504, CAPSS, or SST shall be compensated at fifty-two dollars and fifty cents ($52.50) per period for at least ten (10) minutes of time. 1. During block schedule (SBAC testing), any unit member providing period coverage will be compensated at twice the amount of the regular period coverage rate. 2. During finals at the high school level, any unit member providing period coverage will be compensated at twice the amount of the regular period sub coverage rate. b. At the elementary level, the volunteer unit member(s) shall be paid when no substitutes are available for one hour or more. The students from the absent teacher’s class shall be equitably distributed among the volunteers appointed by the Principal. The unit member(s) receiving the students shall equally divide divide two hundred and sixty two and fifty cents ($262.50) total. c. Unit members including TOSAs and counselors, who do not have a rostered class list, shall be compensated at the rate of pay as specified in 1(a) and 1(b) depending on the grade levels they service. d. In the case where no one, or an insufficient number of teachers volunteer, under either Section a or b above, a teacher or teachers shall be appointed by the Principal to provide substitute coverage, on an equitable basis, and on the same pay basis as enumerated for volunteers above. e. No Special Education Teacher shall be expected to provide substitute coverage for any absent regular teacher’s classroom, except on a strictly voluntary basis.

Substitute Coverage. 1In an event that the substitute coverage system, school asministrator, and school secretary have exhausted all potential substitites from the CCOE sub list, a teacher may be used as a substitute for another teacher during the school day. Teachers have the right of refusal. Students will be given work to do for the day and will follow the receiving teachers schedule for all breaks, lunches, specials, and assemblies. The class shall be methodically divided among their grade level or complimentary grade levels. The teacher of record may provide the administration and classified staff a preferred list of class divisions. Receiving teachers may assign alternative work based on their professional judgment. Pay of $250 for a full day or $125 for up to a half day will be split evenly among the teacher(s) providing coverage. Resource Specialists (RSP), counselors, or Title 1 teachers shall receive no more than $250 for a day of substitute coverage and no more than $125 for up to a half day of substitute coverage.
19.3.1 In an emergency or unusual situation, a teacher may be used as a substitute for another teacher during the school day. The substitution will be mutually agreed upon by the teachers and must not be detrimental to students. Bargaining unit members will not received displaced students on consecutive workdays unless requesting to do so.
19.3.2 Sub coverage for SST, 504, SART, or IEP meetings which can not exceed more than one hundred eighty (180) minutes may be provided by RSP, counselors, or Title 1 teachers.
19.3.3 Sub coverage provided by District staff in the absence of a Day-to-Day Sub will be done in the following order:
19.3.3.1 In the event one teacher on site is absent then administration shall make a reasonable good faith effort to hire regular substitute teacher cover the class unless there are confirmed meetings such as SST, 504, SART, or IEP meetings at which they must attend.
19.3.3.2 In the event two or three teachers on site are absent, coverage for the class(es) second and/or the third teacher shall methodically be borne by teachers in the grade level or any teacher required to attend a District sponsored or approved meeting or activity. The District shall make a reasonable good faith effort to hire regular substitute complimentary grade levels.
19.3.3.3 In the event four teachers when classroom, teachers on site are absent. If, however, the District is unable to find a regular substitute for any absent teacher, the Principal coverage for the school in question shall ask for a volunteer(s) to cover fourth teacher will be provided by the absent teacher’s class(es).
