Elementary teachers shall report to their assigned stations not later than 8:55 am and shall commence their teaching duties at 9:05 am. 2. Teachers may leave their buildings without requesting permission during their scheduled duty-free lunch periods provided that they sign out and in on appropriate forms in the main office of their respective buildings. J. Early shift Teachers in the high school who work periods 1 through 8 shall (when required to remain at school until after the 9th period for 2023attendance at faculty meetings, departmental meetings, special services meetings, committee meetings and/or in-2026service meetings to be attended not only by the said Teachers, but also by late shift Teachers in the high school who work periods 2 through 9) be paid $16.06. M. Beginning 2003-04, elementary school Teachers (grades K–5) shall be paid afforded one (1) early release day in the fall term which shall be for the purpose of providing additional preparation time. (Refer to Article XXIII D. Professional Development). N. Additional preparation time for elementary classroom Teachers (grades K-5) shall be afforded four (4) times per year, one (l) hour each marking period. O. Each traveling Teacher shall only be required to attend meetings at the building which has been designated as his/her home-base. Traveling teachers shall have a duty free lunch of at least forty (40) minutes continuous duration; 1 prep period; and 15 minutes travel time between worksites. P. Traveling Teachers shall be declared elementary, intermediate or high school Teachers for the purposes of scheduling. Q. In the event that a substitute cannot be found and, as a result, any Teacher of grades 6- 12 is assigned to cover a class during his/her preparation period, said Teacher shall be compensated at the rate of $55 26.99 per hourcoverage, it being understood that payment for loss of guaranteed preparation time shall only be required when the Board fails to provide a substitute and not when a preparation period is lost due to a shortened day or any special activity. In those cases where regular substitutes are not available, a teacher may volunteer for class coverage during their non- teaching time. In the absence of volunteers, a teacher shall be assigned to serve as a substitute. Volunteers and assigned teachers shall be paid according to Schedule A-5 "per teaching period" providing they teach. If the teacher conducts a study session in lieu of teaching, he shall be paid according to Schedule A-5 "per study hall period." If, in lieu of a substitute teacher being available, classes or portions of classes are combined for instructional purposes, then the classroom teacher shall be compensated at the current daily substitute rate. If the coverage is for less than a full day, then the teacher shall be compensated at the current class coverage rate for each period covered. 6. The Board will grant extra pay as set forth in the Toms River Schools Extra Curricular Guide to those teachers who are selected by the Superintendent of Schools and who agree to perform the enlisted assignment beyond the normal school day. B. Faculty Meetings 1. Normally, faculty meetings of a period of forty-five (45) minutes shall occur no more than one once each month except in cases of emergency. Educators participating in the Advisory Program at the High School may leave at the end of the regular two block exam schedule, on each of the four (4) days during Final Week, unless they must administer any final examinations that extend beyond that time such as make-up exams, and unless they must complete any remaining professional responsibilities such as attending IEP meetings. 5.3 Personnel other than classroom teachers will work at their assigned tasks for at least the length of the regular teacher's workday. It is recognized, however, that the proper performance of their duties may, on occasion, require these persons to work longer than the normal working day. G. A maximum teaching load shall be defined as follows: 1. 1. Five (5) instructional class assignments in a five (5) day week predicated on an eight (8) period schedule. The remaining three (3) periods in the eight (8) period schedule shall consist of a preparation period, departmental professional period, and a duty to be assigned by the Principal. A Resource Center Class shall be counted toward the maximum teaching load of five instructional assignments in a five-day week. TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. (Does not apply to Basic Skills Instructors) A. As professionalsEach teacher shall have at least four (4) teaching periods and two (2) administrative assignments to be entitled to a preparation period during each school year of this Agreement. Additionally, teachers are expected each teacher shall receive a minimum of 205 minutes of preparation time each week, with no preparation period being less than forty-one (41) minutes duration and, where practicable, scheduled one per day.
