Part-time child study team members who are scheduled at two-fifths (2/5) time shall be subject to being assigned two (2) additional work days per year at paid the per diem rate of 1/200th their regular salary of their salarythe work year in which the additional days occur. Teachers will be notified of any such requirement at the time of the adoption of the school calendar whenever possible but in no case less than thirty (30) days prior to any required days. Inability to work on such days unless adopted as part of a school calendar shall not be subject to consumption of any type of leave nor be the basis for any evaluative or disciplinary action. Such days adopted, as part of the regular calendar shall be treated as all other days for purposes of absence and leave.
B. The workday shall start no later than 7:30a.m and will conclude ten (10) minutes after the instructional day has ended.
C. Teachers have a professional responsibility to attend I.E.P. meetings, meet with parents of students and provide supplemental assistance to students as needed. Such responsibilities will be scheduled within the regular teacher workday whenever possible.
D. Teachers may be required to remain after the end of the regular work day, without additional compensation for the purpose of attending faculty meetings; whenever possible, such meetings shall not exceed (sixty (60) minutes and, except for reasonable need or emergencies, shall be limited to two (2) days such meetings each month. On early release days, the teachers’ regular workday ends at 3:00 p.m.
E. Notice of any regularly scheduled faculty meetings, except where there is urgency, shall be scheduled by the Superintendent of Schools on days when school is not in session and on days that do not conflict with the employee’s contractual obligations in other school districts after the close of the academic year. Except in an emergency, five given three (53) days notice prior to the work meeting. Teachers may suggest items for the agenda so that whenever possible, the agenda for the meeting will be distributed to the teachers one (1) day prior to the meeting.
F. Teachers participation in field trips, which extend beyond the teacher's in-school workday, overnight or weekday trips, shall be givenvoluntary.
K. The last scheduled student prior to winter break G. Teachers will be allowed one (1) period (of about forty (40) minutes) per day or eighty (80) minutes every other day.
H. All teachers shall be a one session available to meet with parents during prep periods and before or after the student day for students and staff. The day before Thanksgiving individual conferences upon the parents’ request or when the teacher feels it is necessary for the education of the student.

Teachers requesting such permission will provide advance notice and subsequent written documentation of the necessity of the absence.
6. When an itinerant teacher is in this agreement,charge of an elementary teacher's class, the latter may leave. A classroom teacher will be expected to wait until the itinerant teacher arrives before leaving the class.
b) result 7. Every effort will be made to develop in the elementary schools a written proposal program and scheduling plan that will provide additional classroom-free time to elementary teachers for planning and preparation for curricula materials.
8. Teachers absent because of illness or report and/or other valid reasons, will make every effort to contact the system provider used by the District for substitute coverage purposes by 6:00 a.m. so that every effort can be made to obtain a substitute teacher for any absent teacher. If it should become necessary for a regularly assigned teacher to cover an in service day presentationextra class during a regular unassigned period for the teacher, and
c) do not occur as an integral he/she will be compensated for such activity at the rate $40.00 per hour. In the elementary schools, unless the teacher of special subjects does make arrangements with the principal to take the class at another convenient time, the classroom teacher will receive the proportional part of one$40.00 per hour according to the length of the teacher’s duties period in the class.
9. If it becomes necessary for which compensation is already being received via a contracted salary guide. Teachers who are assigned teacher to complete special curriculum projects and summer IEP’s take an unassigned class for another teacher on a continuous basis for a period of more than one week (5 school days) due to the unavailability of a substitute, he/she will be compensated at $22.00 per hourthe rate of one-fifth of his/her salary step retroactive.

If any qualified member of the Middle School/High School teaching staff agrees to teach an extra class in lieu of planning periods on a full-time yearly basis that teacher will be notified compensated at the rate of special assignments in writingone-fifth of his/her salary step for an extra class that meets four (4) times a week. TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. A. The Superintendent of Schools shall meet with each teacher after School Committee and the first two (2) weeks of school to establish each Association recognize and agree that the teacher’s daily arrival responsibility to his/her students and departure times for his/her profession generally entail the remainder performance of duties and the school yearexpenditure of time beyond the regular work day, but that time and work schedules can and should be established. The latest arrival time selected by the teacher shall work year of teachers, other than new personnel who may be required to attend additional orientation sessions, will begin no earlier than September 1st and will terminate no later than June 30th, but will in no event be less than one hundred eighty three (183) work days. The school calendar shall also include the scheduling of five (5) emergency/inclement weather days. (For payroll purposes, fractional amounts paid or deducted shall be at the rate of 1/183 per day.) Orientation days for other than new personnel shall be considered as scheduled work days. Any days above this limit shall be reimbursed at the 1/183 of the teacher’s contracted salary. The schedule for school hours for abnormal conditions of enrollment and housing is subject to modification by the School Committee providing that such modification will not increase the length of the teacher’s workday. Hours for normal conditions will be 7:20 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and under any conditions will not be more than a continuous six and one-half hour’s workday except for one hour per week for scheduled consultations with parents or administrative meeting times. Effective September 1, 2008, the teacher work day will be increased by ten (10) minutes, five (5) minutes in the morning and five (5) minutes in the afternoon (hours for normal conditions to be 7:15 a.m. to 3:35 p.m.), for a continuous workday of six hours and forty minutes, except for one hour per week for scheduled consultations with parents or administrative meeting times. A teacher at the Agawam High School shall be required to arrive at school five (5) minutes before the start of classes and shall not leave until five (5) minutes after classes conclude. A teacher at the Agawam Junior High School shall be required to arrive at school eight (8) minutes before the start of classes and shall not leave until five (5) minutes after classes conclude. Teachers at the Agawam Middle School, the elementary schools and the Early Childhood center shall be required to arrive at school ten (10) minutes prior to before the students’ arrival, start of classes and the earliest departure time shall be no earlier than not leave until ten (10) minutes following student dismissalafter classes conclude. It is understood thatrecognized that procedure for detention, prior emergencies, and after school help will be continued. Teachers shall teach no more than thirty (30) minutesperiods within the six-day cycle and within the six-day cycle shall have the equivalent of one (1) unassigned period per day and one (1) supervisory class per day except that teachers of art, music, consumer and health sciences, technical education, physical education, science laboratories, and the high school remedial reading teacher shall teach no more than the equivalent of six (6) periods per day and shall have the equivalent of one (1) unassigned period per day with no supervisory class. The total required teaching of the equivalent of six (6) periods per day is permissible for teachers of art, music, consumer and health sciences, technical education, physical education, science laboratories, and the high school remedial teacher. Effective September 1, 1999, science laboratories will no longer be included among those areas which teachers may be assigned as a sixth teaching period; instead, science laboratories will be counted as one of the five teaching periods or equivalent permissible per day. The teacher’s lunch period shall be a minimum of twenty (20) minutes per day free from all duties. Teachers at Agawam Junior High School shall work day for secretaries shall not exceed a seven (7) period day with a six (6) day cycle. Teachers shall teach no more than thirty (30) periods within the six (6) day cycle and a half hour day.
C. Teachers within the six (6) day cycle shall have the equivalent of one (1) unassigned period per day and paraprofessionals one (1) supervisory class per day except that teachers of art, music, family and consumer science, health, technical education, physical education, business, resource room, and reading shall receive teach no more than the equivalent of six (6) periods per day and shall have the equivalent of one (1) unassigned period per day with no supervisory class. For the 2007-2008 school year only, it is recognized that will coincide with at the student lunch periodelementary schools the current work schedule shall continue. D. Teachers Elementary teachers shall be provided with two guaranteed four hundred (200400) minutes of preparation unassigned time per week. When necessary in the judgment of the administrator, preparation time may be used for purposes other than preparation.
E. Teachers will be provided with a three (3) week cycle. Kindergarten teachers shall be guaranteed five hundred (500) minutes of unassigned time in a three (3) week cycle. Early Childhood teachers shall be guaranteed at least five hundred (500) minutes of unassigned time in a three (3) week cycle. In addition, all elementary teachers shall have a minimum of twelve (12) personal hygiene periods of a minimum of fifteen (15) minutes each during a three (3) week cycle. There will be a one-half (1/2) hour of uninterrupted noon lunch period, free from all duties allotted to each elementary school teacher. Elementary teaches shall not be required to perform lunch duty or noon recess duty, and one-half of such time shall be devoted to student instruction, and the other one-half of such time shall be unassigned time. Teachers may leave school during lunch or unassigned periods. Principals may withhold this privilege with reason. The administration may establish reporting procedures for the absence of teachers from the building. The School Committee and the Association realize that a small class size is of advantage in the teaching process. Teachers who perform additional work not covered by this Agreement shall be paid at the rate of thirty ($30.00) dollars per hour. (This rate shall stay in effect for the life of this agreement). Additional work is at the discretion of the teacher. Travel expenses will be paid to employees to use their own motor vehicle in travel in connection with their job duties at the current Town Hall rate. (Effective September 1, 1993) Such travel may take place to and from facilities or residences other than schools, and such travel may be to communities outside the City of Agawam.
A. Guidance Counselors shall work 189 days per year, they shall work six (6) days which shall normally be before the opening of school or after the close of school. Guidance Counselors shall be paid effective September 1, 2007 one thousand eight hundred four dollars ($1,804) over the teaching schedule; September 1, 2008 one thousand eight hundred seventy-six dollars ($1,876) September 1, 2009 – one thousand nine hundred forty-two dollars ($1,942). Guidance counselors will be released one day per month 2 hours earlier than the normally scheduled end of their workday and will hold office hours 2 hours in the evening between 6:00-8:00 p.m. for the purpose of curriculum developmentconferencing with parents. Middle School, committee work, Junior High School and inter-grade communication. At the conclusion of the session, each teacher High School guidance counselors will complete an evaluation of the sessionschedule conference evenings and during alternate nights.
F. Special curriculum projects and summer IEP’s may be established by administration and recommended to the Board of Education for approval. Said studies and projects are limited to those tasks which:
a) are begun but cannot be completed during the school day as defined in this agreement,
b) result in a written proposal or report and/or an in service day presentation, and
c) do not occur as an integral part of one’s duties for which compensation is already being received via a contracted salary guide. Teachers who are assigned to complete special curriculum projects and summer IEP’s will be compensated at $22.00 per hour. Staff members will be notified of special assignments in writing. Assignment notification for a project will include:
a) a description of the project,
b) the length of time necessary to complete,
c) the method of determining successful completion, and
d) the date the assignment is to be completed. A staff member who accepts a special assignment and the conditions will notify administration in writing. The Superintendent of Schools shall authorize remuneration upon completion of the project in accordance with the criteria listed above. Vouchers and reports must be submitted to the Superintendent two weeks prior to the regular scheduled Board meeting in order to receive payment during that month.
G. Homebound instruction shall be compensated at $25.00 per hour. Vouchers and time sheets must be submitted to the School Board Secretary by the 15th and/or 30th of each month. Payment to homebound instructors shall be made in the pay period following the submission of the necessary voucher and time sheets.
H. The Board, through the Superintendent of Schools, may solicit the suggestions and recommendations concerning the school calendar from interested groups. However, the Teacher School Calendar shall contain a maximum of on hundred and eighty seven (187) days to allow for snow or emergency closings. In the event there are no snow or emergency closings, the teachers will only be required to work a maximum of one hundred and eighty four (184) days.
I. One day per month shall be set aside by the Superintendent of Schools in consultation with the teachers for the purpose of in-school meetings. On the date of the in-school meetings, the length of the school day for teachers shall be seven (7) hours and thirty (30) minutes. Teachers may have the opportunity to suggest school related topics for inclusion in the agenda. On days of scheduled faculty meeting, there will be no restorative and conferences. Part-time child study team members who are scheduled at two-fifths (2/5) time shall be subject to being assigned two (2) additional work days per year at the per diem rate of 1/200th of their salary. TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. A. The Superintendent of Schools All staff shall meet with each teacher after the first two (2) weeks of school to establish each teacher’s daily arrival and departure times for the remainder of the school year. The latest arrival time selected by the teacher shall be no later than report ten (10) minutes prior to the students’ arrivalcommencement of the normal student day and shall be required to remain five (5) minutes beyond the normal student day. During such time, teachers shall be on the school premises and on normal school business. C. All administrative/building meetings held during the first day(s) of each new school year (the time prior to students being scheduled to report for their first full day of instruction) shall indicate their presence be restricted to a combined total of ninety (90) minutes. During these day(s) the administration may also meet with new hires for a period not to exceed ninety (90) minutes.
Section 2 All bargaining unit members shall receive a duty by placing a check free uninterrupted lunch period according to the following schedule: High School - 45 minutes Norup K-8 - 50 minutes ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ Middle School - 45 minutes Elementary School - 45 minutes Time required to travel between buildings shall not be counted as a portion of any teacher's lunch period.
A. The Board will attempt to provide relief periods for all teachers servicing elementary buildings through procedures mutually established by the staff in each building. However, it is understood that said relief periods will no longer be guaranteed.
B. Time required to travel between buildings shall not be counted as a portion of any teacher's preparation and/or relief period. Generally, fifteen (15) minutes will be scheduled for this purpose unless the appropriate column of the faculty sign in roster. Staff members who have requested early flex distance between buildings or other unique circumstances require additional time shall be available two days each week for restorative help after the student day. Inability to work on such days unless adopted as part of a school calendar shall not be subject to consumption of any type of leave nor be the basis for any evaluative or disciplinary action. Such days adopted, as part of the regular calendar shall be treated as all other days for purposes of absence and leave.

C. Teachers have a professional responsibility to attend I.E.P. meetings, meet with parents of students and provide supplemental assistance to students as needed. Such responsibilities will be scheduled within the regular teacher workday whenever possible.
D. Teachers may be required to remain after the end of the regular work day, without additional compensation for the purpose of attending faculty meetings; whenever possible, such meetings shall not exceed (sixty (60) minutes and, except for reasonable need or emergencies, shall be limited to two (2) days such meetings each month. On early release days, the teachers’ regular workday ends at 3:00 p.m.

B. The total SEA will accept a block schedule plan that has been presented or any other mutually negotiated plan after a two-year in-service and training period. Implementation of bloc schedule in the future will be mutually agreed to.
(1) The weekly teaching load in the High School shall be twenty-five (25) teaching periods plus five (5) periods of extra duty, with the provision that all teachers of special subjects such as special education, reading, art, music, industrial arts, home economics, physical education and basic skills in these schools may be required school day for teachers shall not exceed seven hours and ten minutes and for paraprofessionals shall not exceed six hours and to have a program of thirty (30) minutes. The total required work day for secretaries shall not exceed a seven and a half hour dayteaching periods without periods of extra duty.
C. Teachers (2) That all teachers presently teaching thirty (30) period weeks will not be assigned extra duties.
(3) That any assignment beyond thirty (30) periods (except homeroom) will be considered an extra assignment and paraprofessionals shall receive will be compensated in accordance with Article 6, Section E, of the Agreement.
(4) For those staff members whose teaching is twenty- five (25) teaching periods with five (5) periods of extra duty, the duty will be equal to a teaching period and will be within the confines of the working day. Part of the extra duty period may occur either prior to or immediately at the end of the school day, but not both.
(5) Under existing schedule, all High School teachers are guaranteed two (2) preparation periods each equal to the length of the teaching period. Where the schedule is altered due to exams, single session or state testing, the guarantee of two (2) preparation periods may not apply.
(1) All elementary teachers will have a minimum duty-duty- free lunch period of thirtybreak of: Thirty-five (35) minutes that will coincide with during inclement weather, forty-five (45) minutes on all other days.
(2) All elementary teachers (Preschool 1-5) shall be guaranteed one (1) daily preparation period not less than (40) minutes in continuous duration.

All secondary school teachers shall have at least one regular class period of preparation time each school day during which time they shall not be assigned to other duties except in emergency. All elementary teachers in grades 1 to 6 will be provided with a daily preparation period of at least forty (3540) minutes that will coincide during the time the pupils are in school except as provided for in Section C of this Article. If, however, the principal feels it becomes necessary because of scheduling difficulties, a maximum of two teachers per building may be assigned to an altered preparation period schedule of one day in the week without a preparation period and one day in the same week with two preparation periods. Those teachers assigned their five preparations over a four-day period of time shall not be so assigned more than once in six years. Teachers whose weekly schedule contains six preparation periods shall be considered first for the student lunch altered preparation period schedule and so assigned if the principal feels it meets the scheduling needs of the building. They may take this preparation period during a time when a special teacher is in charge of their class, and the teacher has the option of leaving. However, the teacher who elects to remain in his/her class at this time thereby forgoes his/her preparation period. Secretaries Each kindergarten teacher will be provided with thirty (30) minutes of aide time per day. The schedules of teachers other than elementary regular classroom teachers may be altered in order to provide for staggered starting and ending times within a building provided however that such altered schedules shall receive not exceed one period in length or its equivalent.

The work which elementary music teachers perform in connection with glee club and assemblies shall be counted as part of their teaching load, and such teachers shall have the same working day as other teachers in the school or schools in which they are working, including at least a minimum forty (40) minute duty-free lunch period of and a forty (40) minutes. Employees may leave the school grounds during their scheduled lunch minute preparation period upon notification to administrationor vice versa.
D. Teachers In the event that teacher aides are employed in the elementary schools by the Board of Education, they will assist in classroom work and in the library at the option of the teacher involved. If the teacher exercises such option, the teacher aide shall be provided under his/her direction, supervision and control. The classroom assignment of teacher aides in any building shall be the subject of consultation and discussion with two hundred (200) minutes the building committee of preparation time per weekthat building. When necessary in the judgment Teacher Aides are not to be interpreted as Case Aides. A Case Aide is an individual assigned as a result of a decision of the administrator, preparation time may Committee on Special Education. This article will not be used for purposes other than preparationinvoked in a question about the placement of Special Education students.
E. Teachers will If possible, teachers shall meet their classes in a single, designated classroom and shall not have classes scheduled in other rooms.
F. The standard teaching load of secondary subjects (grades 7-12) shall be provided with five (5) class teaching periods. The standard subject load shall be two subjects per school year and three (3) oneteaching preparations (defined as a lesson designed for a subject and grade level). The total number of minutes assigned for teaching periods shall be considered in computing the actual number of teaching periods so assigned. It is understood that science teachers will have four (4) class teaching periods and their class-half related laboratory work, not to exceed a total of twenty-eight (1/228) periods per week. Those science teachers who have twenty-eight (28) such periods per week shall be relieved of homeroom duty and, if possible, the science room of such teacher shall not be used for homeroom purposes. Any additional such periods per week shall be considered to constitute a professionally related activity as provided in Article VI, Paragraph E hereof. Additional assistance will be provided to aid such teachers in such activities as laboratory set-up, clean-up and inventory work. Any change in the standard teaching subject or preparation load prescribed above shall be by negotiation or subject to the grievance procedure of Article II with the administration to establish the reasonableness of the change under all the circumstances. The parties agree that, the middle school will be organized so as to provide for a nine-period student day and additional teacher time generated as a result of this organization shall be subject to assignment of the teacher pursuant to Article VI, Paragraph E, Sections 2 through 8. Notwithstanding the above, no teacher shall be assigned an additional duty period pursuant to Article VI, Paragraph E-2, until such time as all available teachers from the staff have been assigned to a first duty period pursuant to this paragraph.
G. When possible, elementary classroom teachers, including kindergarten teachers and reading teachers, shall not be assigned to more than one building.
H. If possible, special professional personnel shall have an appropriate room and other facilities which permit the effective discharge of their responsibilities to their pupils.
I. Subject only to the provisions of this Agreement, teachers shall not be required to attend meetings scheduled before or after the teaching day.
J. At the elementary level during that time before the start of the student day, or after the end of the student day, teachers shall be required to perform professional tasks such as:
1. Meetings with administration, staff, parents, including, but not limited to CSE/IST meetings.
2. In-service or Professional Training (Article XI, Second Unnumbered Paragraph) do not apply in connection with this paragraph.
3. Assistance with the entrance/exit of students to/from school. The specific professional task to be performed during this professional time will be determined by the building principal. In the absence of such a determination as to any particular professional period, the teacher shall select a task from the above list. The length of the student day at the elementary level shall be determined by the District. The beginning/end of the student day may be organized so as to provide for 30-minute sessions as follows:
1. Tutorial and extra help of students, including the planning, therefore, to the same extent as required in connection with the balance of the work day.
2. Enrichment programs developed by the principal in consultation with teachers. To the extent that the principal selects tutoring, extra help, the time shall be utilized to reinforce/support/reteach material previously delivered in class. However, this limitation shall not apply in connection with the “pre- teaching” of material. Effective September 1, 2013, elementary teachers will be provided the equivalent of four half-days of release time, specifically one half-day per quarter, to be scheduled at the discretion of the administration for the purpose of curriculum development, committee work, evaluating benchmark assessments and inter-grade communicationstudent growth measures. At the conclusion of the sessionmiddle school level, each teacher will complete an evaluation of the session.
F. Special curriculum projects and summer IEP’s may be established by administration and recommended to the Board of Education for approval. Said studies and projects are limited to those tasks which:
a) are begun but cannot be completed during the school day as defined in this agreement,
b) result in a written proposal or report and/or extent that an in service day presentation, and
c) do not occur as an integral part of one’s duties for which compensation is already being received via a contracted salary guide. Teachers who are assigned to complete special curriculum projects and summer IEP’s will be compensated at $22.00 per hour. Staff members will be notified of special assignments in writing. Assignment notification organizational structure provides for a project will include:
anine (9) a description of the project,
b) the length of time necessary to complete,
c) the method of determining successful completion, and
d) the date the assignment is to be completed. A staff member who accepts a special assignment and the conditions will notify administration in writing. TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. A. The Superintendent in-school work year of Schools teachers employed on a ten (10) month basis (other than new personnel who may be required to attend an additional one (1) day of orientation) shall meet with each not exceed one hundred eighty-five (185) days.
1. The in-school year shall include days when pupils are in attendance, orientation days and any other days on which teacher attendance is required.
2. There shall be early dismissals the day before Thanksgiving Day, the day before Christmas vacation, the day before Spring recess and the last three (3) student days of the school year. Teachers may be required to remain until the end of the regular pupil day the last three (3) students days of the year to complete required closing duties. No required in-service training or other meetings not directly related to the closing of the school year shall be scheduled during these three (3) days.
B. Child Study Team teacher-members shall be excluded from the provisions of this Article. Their workday shall be seven and one half (7 and 1/2) hours inclusive of a half hour duty free lunch.
1. Child Study Team members may choose to receive compensatory time for meetings held after work hours.
2. Child Study Team Members shall have early closing sessions in the same manner as classroom teachers when teachers attendance is not required after the first early closing.
3. Child Study Team members shall be eligible for four (4) weeks paid vacation allowance each school year which may be utilized as per practice, except that any Child Study Team member appointed after July 1st or who retires or resigns shall receive a pro-rated vacation allowance in their initial/final school year of employment. Child Study Team members employed after September 1, 2000 shall be required to bank two (2) weeks of school vacation allowance during each of their first two (2) years of employment. They may use vacation allowance at the rate of four (4) weeks per year thereafter. Any unused vacation entitlement an employee may have upon termination will be paid within thirty (30) days of the employee’s final day of work.
C. Teachers are expected to establish each teacher’s daily arrival devote to their assignments the time necessary to meet their responsibilities.
1. As a matter of safety, teachers shall be required to sign in and departure times for out at all schools by the remainder time designated by the administrator of the school year. The latest arrival time selected by the teacher shall be no later than ten (10) minutes prior to the students’ arrival, and the earliest departure time which shall be no earlier than ten (10) minutes following student dismissal. It is understood that, prior to the establishment of the teachers’ individual schedules, the teachers’ work day shall be from 8:20 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Teachers shall not be required to clock in nor clock out, but shall indicate their presence for duty by placing a check ▇▇▇▇ in the appropriate column of the faculty sign in roster. Staff members who have requested early flex time shall be available two days each week for restorative help after the student day. Such days adopted, as part of the regular calendar shall be treated as all other days for purposes of absence and leave.
B. The teacher workday shall start fifteen (15) minutes before the student day and will conclude fifteen (15) minutes after the instructional day has ended.
C. Teachers have a professional responsibility to attend I.E.P. meetings, meet with parents of students and provide supplemental assistance to students as needed. Such responsibilities will be scheduled within the regular teacher workday whenever possible.
D. Teachers may be required to remain after the end of the regular work day, without additional compensation for the purpose of attending faculty meetings; whenever possible, such meetings shall not exceed (sixty (60) minutes and, except for reasonable need or emergencies, shall be limited to two (2) days such meetings each month. On early release days, the teachers’ regular workday ends at 3:00 p.m.
E. Notice of any regularly scheduled faculty meetings, except where there is urgency, shall be scheduled by the Superintendent of Schools on days when school is not in session and on days that do not conflict with the employee’s contractual obligations in other school districts after the close of the academic year. Except in an emergency, five given three (53) days notice prior to the work meeting. Teachers may suggest items for the agenda so that whenever possible, the agenda for the meeting will be distributed to the teachers one (1) day prior to the meeting.

On schedules less than a full day an abbreviated schedule shall be used so that do not conflict all teachers share in prep time due that day, on a proportionate basis with the employee’s contractual obligations in other school districts after the close shortened day. This shall not apply to shortened days due to emergency. This is a continuation of the academic yearpractice. Except in an emergency, five (5) days notice prior to the work day This time shall be givenused for preparation of lessons and experiments, and other activities that have a bearing on that teacher's class or classes.
K. The last scheduled student prior 2. Only under emergency circumstances, may the administration direct teachers, as needed, to winter break shall be a one session day temporarily substitute for students and staffan absent teacher. The day before Thanksgiving will be a one session day for students and staff.
L. A teacher who declines the $500.00 payment for serving as a mentoring For each thirty (30) minutes of substituting, said teacher shall receive release time of one period per month.$15.00

TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. A. The Superintendent in-school work year of Schools teachers employed on a ten (10) month basis (other than new personnel who may be required to attend an additional one (1) day of orientation) shall meet with each not exceed one hundred eighty-five (185) days.
1. The in-school year shall include days when pupils are in attendance, orientation days and any other days on which teacher attendance is required.
2. There shall be early dismissals the day before Thanksgiving Day, the day before Christmas vacation, the day before Spring recess and the last three (3) student days of the school year. Teachers may be required to remain until the end of the regular pupil day the last three (3) students days of the year to complete required closing duties. No required in-service training or other meetings not directly related to the closing of the school year shall be scheduled during these three (3) days.
B. Child Study Team teacher-members shall be excluded from the provisions of this Article. Their workday shall be seven and one half (7 and 1/2) hours inclusive of a half hour duty free lunch.
1. Child Study Team members may choose to receive compensatory time for meetings held after work hours.
2. Child Study Team Members shall have early closing sessions in the same manner as classroom teachers when teachers attendance is not required after the first early closing.
3. Child Study Team members shall be eligible for four (4) weeks paid vacation allowance each school year which may be utilized as per practice, except that any Child Study Team member appointed after July 1st or who retires or resigns shall receive a pro-rated vacation allowance in their initial/final school year of employment. Child Study Team members employed after September 1, 2000, shall be required to bank two (2) weeks of vacation allowance during each of their first two (2) years of employment. They may use vacation allowance at the rate of four (4) weeks per year thereafter. Any unused vacation entitlement an employee may have upon termination will be paid within thirty (30) days of the employee’s final day of work.
C. Teachers are expected to devote to their assignments the time necessary to meet their responsibilities.
1. As a matter of safety, teachers shall be required to sign in and out at all schools by the time designated by the administrator of the school which shall be no earlier than fifteen (15) minutes before the pupil day begins, if that teacher has a duty and ten (10) minutes before if they do not have a duty.
2. Employees who fail to establish sign in by the designated time and do not respond to a page or are not otherwise accounted for shall be subject to the following corrective procedure each teacher’s daily year: Lateness 1 Notice of lateness form completed by staff member Lateness 2 Notice of lateness form completed by staff member Lateness 3 Notice of lateness form completed by staff member Conference with building principal. Staff member may have an Association representative. Letter sent to staff member for inclusion in personnel file. Lateness 4 And all thereafter for the duration of the year Salary shall be docked in 1/2 hour increments based on the prevailing extra pay rate per hour
3. The arrival and departure times for all teachers shall be designated in accordance with the remainder of the school yearwork day limits expressed herein.
4. The latest arrival time selected by the No teacher shall be no later required to report for duty earlier than fifteen (15) minutes before the opening of the pupils’ school day, and shall be permitted to leave 25 minutes after the close of the pupils’ school day, except as otherwise designated in this Article. On Fridays or on the days preceding holidays or vacations, the teachers’ day shall end ten (10) minutes prior to the students’ arrival, and the earliest departure time shall be no earlier than ten (10) minutes following student dismissal. It is understood that, prior to the establishment of the teachers’ individual schedules, the teachers’ work day shall be from 8:20 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Teachers shall not be required to clock in nor clock out, but shall indicate their presence for duty by placing a check ▇▇▇▇ in the appropriate column of the faculty sign in roster. Staff members who have requested early flex time shall be available two days each week for restorative help after the student day. Teachers will come in at 8:20 a.m. and leave at 3:30 p.m. Should no students require help, staff members can leave after ten minutes.
B. The total required school day for teachers shall not exceed seven hours and ten minutes and for paraprofessionals shall not exceed six hours and thirty (30) minutes. The total required work day for secretaries shall not exceed a seven and a half hour day.
C. Teachers and paraprofessionals shall receive a minimum duty-free lunch period of thirty-five (35) minutes that will coincide with the student lunch period. Secretaries shall receive a minimum duty-free lunch period of forty (40) minutes. Employees may leave the school grounds during their scheduled lunch period upon notification to administration.
D. Teachers shall be provided with two hundred (200) minutes of preparation time per week. When necessary in the judgment of the administrator, preparation time may be used for purposes other than preparation.
E. Teachers will be provided with three (3) one-half (1/2) days for the purpose of curriculum development, committee work, and inter-grade communication. At the conclusion of the session, each teacher will complete an evaluation of the session.
F. Special curriculum projects and summer IEP’s may be established by administration and recommended to the Board of Education for approval. Said studies and projects are limited to those tasks which:
a) are begun but cannot be completed during the school day as defined in this agreement,
b) result in a written proposal or report and/or an in service day presentation, and
c) do not occur as an integral part of one’s duties for which compensation is already being received via a contracted salary guide. Teachers who are assigned to complete special curriculum projects and summer IEP’s will be compensated at $22.00 per hour. Staff members will be notified of special assignments in writing. Assignment notification for a project will include:
a) a description of the project,
b) the length of time necessary to complete,
c) the method of determining successful completion, and
d) the date the assignment is to be completed. A staff member who accepts a special assignment and the conditions will notify administration in writing. The Superintendent of Schools shall authorize remuneration upon completion of the project in accordance with the criteria listed above. Vouchers and reports must be submitted to the Superintendent two weeks prior to the regular scheduled Board meeting in order to receive payment during that month.
G. Homebound instruction shall be compensated at $25.00 per hour. Vouchers and time sheets must be submitted to the School Board Secretary by the 15th and/or 30th of each month. Payment to homebound instructors shall be made in the pay period following the submission of the necessary voucher and time sheets.
H. The Board, through the Superintendent of Schools, may solicit the suggestions and recommendations concerning the school calendar from interested groups. However, the Teacher School Calendar shall contain a maximum of on hundred and eighty seven (187) days to allow for snow or emergency closings. In the event there are no snow or emergency closings, the teachers will only be required to work a maximum of one hundred and eighty four (184) days.
I. One day per month shall be set aside by the Superintendent of Schools in consultation with the teachers for the purpose of in-school meetings. On the date of the in-school meetings, the length of the school day for teachers shall be seven (7) hours and thirty (30) minutes. The notice of the agenda for the in-school meeting shall be given to the teachers involved of posted at least 48 hours prior to the meeting, except in an emergency. Teachers may have the opportunity to suggest school related topics for inclusion in the agenda. On days of scheduled faculty meeting, there will be no restorative and conferences. Teacher day for all teachers will begin at 8:20 a.m. and end at 3:50 p.m.
J. Part-time child study team members who are scheduled at two-fifths (2/5) time shall be subject to being assigned two (2) additional work days per year at the per diem rate of 1/200th of their salary. The two (2) days shall be scheduled by the Superintendent of Schools on days when school is not in session and on days that do not conflict with the employee’s contractual obligations in other school districts after the close of the academic yearpupils’ day except on those days when teacher attendance is required for in-service training, parent conferences, back to school nights, etc.
a. If teachers are block scheduled they may leave 15 minutes after the pupils on regular school days and 10 minutes after pupils on Fridays, and at the same time as pupils on days preceding holidays or vacation periods.
b. Teachers may be required to attend one (1) back to school night or its equivalent each year with no additional compensation.
c. Teachers required to attend parent conferences at night shall receive released time in the manner currently provided.
d. Once a teacher has completed their last parent teacher conference, they shall be permitted to leave.
5. Except in an emergency, five (5) days notice prior Any teacher who is required by his/her Principal or a District Administrator to the work beyond said work day shall be givencompensated at the rate of $28.00 per hour.
K. The last scheduled student prior to winter break 6. Teachers who voluntarily take part in District sponsored , not County sponsored, summer in-service training programs, shall be compensated at a one session day for students and staff. The day before Thanksgiving will be a one session day for students and staffrate of $28.00 per hour.
L. A teacher who declines D. Teacher Department heads shall not be assigned more than four (4) student instruction periods.
E. Subject Area Coordinators shall have one (1) day per month released time to conduct meetings.
F. Except for emergencies, employees may leave the $500.00 payment building without requesting permission during their scheduled duty-free lunch periods, but shall sign in and out.
G. Building-based teachers may be required to remain after the end of the regular work day, without additional compensation, for serving as a mentoring teacher the purpose of attending building, faculty meeting or other professional meetings one (1) day each month, plus eight (8) in- service after school training sessions.
