TECHNOLOGICAL, AUTOMATION AND OTHER CHANGES. This article will not interfere with the right of the Employer to make such changes in methods of operation as are consistent with technological advances in this field. The purpose of the following provisions is to preserve job security and stabilize employment, and to protect as many regular employees as possible from loss of employment. Any employee classified as a regular employee shall be considered displaced by technological change when their services shall no longer be required as a result of a change in plant or equipment, or a change in a process or method of operation diminishing the total number of employees required to operate the facility in which they are employed. Employees affected by technological change will be given reasonable notification in advance and allowed a training period to acquire the necessary skills for retaining employment within the facility, commensurate with their seniority and ability. The Employer agrees that, whenever possible, no employee shall lose employment because of technological change, utilizing normal turn over of staff to absorb such displaced employee. However, when necessary to reduce staff, it shall be done in accordance with Article 11 - Layoff and Recall.
