Types of Leaves. The District provides a variety of leaves for faculty. Some leaves are related to conditions/circumstances that are unavoidable and are guaranteed by federal or state law; these leaves are referred to as non-discretionary leaves. Other leaves are provided to ensure faculty growth, development, and job guarantee; these are discretionary leaves. The approval of discretionary leaves is subject to: 1. eligibility criteria and/or 2. leave/time availability and/or 3. program integrity Each discretionary leave has specific procedures to follow in order for the leave to be approved.
