Common use of Use of Other On-Site Alternative Energy Systems Clause in Contracts

Use of Other On-Site Alternative Energy Systems. Sources of on-site heating energy other than heat recovery from cooling are not acceptable, as these would displace energy that would otherwise be provided by the district energy utility. However, other types of non-thermal on-site energy production, including photovoltaic systems would be considered acceptable. Examples of systems that are not acceptable include, but are not limited to:  Gas or wood fireplaces;  2-pipe water-source heat pumps for heating;  Sewer drain heat recovery devices that use heat pumps;  Biomass-fired boilers;  Air-source heat pumps; and  Geoexchange systems.
