Volunteer Aides. 1) Volunteer aides shall not be assigned to a teacher without mutual consent between teacher and site administrator. 2) The duties to be performed by a volunteer aide shall be the responsibility of the supervising teacher with the approval of the site administrator. 3) The site administrator shall supply all known pertinent background data of a voluntary aide to the teacher who is being asked to supervise such aide. 4) A teacher who is supervising a voluntary aide shall be empowered, after consultation with the site administrator, to terminate the services of such aide, through the procedure determined by the site administrator.
Volunteer Aides a. The principal shall submit the proper form, SOP 7.7c, for any individual interested serving as a volunteer aide. b. SOP 7.7c is to be signed by the school principal and forwarded to the Office of Curriculum and Instruction. c. SOP 7.7c will then be forwarded to the superintendent for signature. d. A copy of the signed Volunteer Aide Application will be sent to the school, and a copy will remain on file in the Office of Curriculum and Instruction. e. The school office will maintain a file of approved volunteers. • All volunteer aides who volunteer regularly are required to have a tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray. f. Volunteer aides are to be approved annually.
Volunteer Aides. No district may abolish any of its classified positions and utilize volunteer aides, as authorized by Education Code Section 44814, 44815, 35212 and Labor Code Section 3364.5, in lieu of classified employees who are laid off as a result of the abolishment of a position; nor may a district refuse to employ a person in a vacant classified position and use volunteer aides in lieu thereof. It is the intent of the Legislature to permit school districts to use volunteer aides to enhance its educational program but not to permit displacement of classified employees nor to allow districts to utilize volunteers in lieu of normal employee requirements.
