Volunteers to Float. When a need for floating arises, which cannot be filled 34 from the Nursing Resource Team or on-duty RNs on shift, volunteers will be 1 solicited from the shift. Agency RNs will be floated prior to regular and 2 flexible status RNs, subject to qualifications. If staffing needs cannot be filled 3 by volunteers on the shift, or Agency RNs, regular and flexible status nurses 4 on the shift may be floated by rotation on an equitable basis. In light of the 5 requirements of the particular nursing situation, qualifications for floating 6 assignments will be determined by the Hospital. Qualifications for floating 7 assignments will be based on unit requirements within clinical groupings, 8 developed as part of the staffing plans pursuant to article 15.3. In making 9 such assignments, the Hospital will follow Section 7.4. 11 RNs, when asked to work on an unscheduled day, including same day CNI, 12 (not a standby day), will be informed if there is a float possibility, and if so, to 13 what unit(s), so that the RN can make a fully informed choice as to accepting 14 the requested call to work. If an RN accepts a call into work without being so 15 informed of such a float possibility: 16 A. The RN may insist on home unit, including buddy unit float, work only 17 for the entire call and shift; or 19 B. If not put to work on the home unit, may decline to work, go home, and 20 receive two (2) hours minimum call in pay. 22 Absent mutual agreement, an RN will only be required to float to one 23 other nursing unit per shift (return to home unit from a float 24 assignment is not a separate second float).

The Hospital shall submit to the Union, at three (3) month intervals, the number of volunteers for the current month and the number of hours worked and the duties performed.
