The "Workshops and Seminars" clause defines the terms under which educational or training sessions are provided as part of an agreement. Workshops and Seminars. 1. Application for the alternative workshops and seminars method to earn units must be preapproved.

To qualify for salary advancement, workshops and seminars must be directly related to the faculty member’s professional assignment or be of direct benefit to the District, or meet a District need to improve student success. The certificate of completion or other evidence of attendance and a description of the organization’s professional qualifications must be submitted to the Salary Advancement Committee and Associate Vice President of Human Resources.
4. The alternative workshops and seminars method to earn units must have a minimum of eighteen (18) hours of instruction for a specific topic or course to equal one (1) unit. Alternative workshop and seminar methods of earning credit having less than eighteen (18) hours may not be accumulated. It is recommended that for the shorter workshop and seminar alternative methods, the faculty member review the information for possible use as FLEX activity.
5. Only three (3) units of alternative method courses are applicable per salary advancement. Faculty in Career Technical Education (CTE) may petition to the Salary Advancement Committee to have more than three (3) units be alternative method units. The petition will follow the normal process for approval or disapproval.
Workshops and Seminars. It is the policy of Champaign County Head Start to encourage and support, within budget constraints, continuing training for its Employees through workshops and seminars. In those instances when the Employer provides notice to its Employees of upcoming events, such notice shall be provided to all Employees by posting notice of such training in a prominent place. This paragraph does not impose a duty of discovery on the Employer to learn of workshop and seminar opportunities.

B. The absence of such requests does not relieve professional employees of their obligation to remain knowledgeable about content and methods relative to their assignment.
C. In order to provide for equitable distribution of funds, money for reimbursement will be set aside when the Superintendent approves the courses to be taken. The School district will provide payment for approved courses when presented with a purchase order from the offering institution with the understanding that the teacher requesting this prepayment option, must also execute a salary reduction agreement at the time of the request for graduate course approval and provide evidence of a passing grade (B or better) within 30 days of the completion of the course either in the form of a transcript or letter on the school’s stationery. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in the implementation of the salary reduction agreement. In no case can this be later than June 10th so that accounts can be closed out for the fiscal year. If the teacher withdraws from the class, he/she must give notice to the District within 15 days. The teacher will be responsible for any money not recovered from the offering institution because of withdrawal. Money for course reimbursement, conferences and workshop registration are subject to the availability of funds, each semester, except for those enrolled in an approved degree program, on a first come first serve basis determined by the Superintendent.
Workshops and Seminars. Workshops/seminars may be scheduled periodically on teacher in-service days. Specific dates and topics will be selected as needed and as finances permit. The Custodial Employee Representatives will be consulted regarding topics of interest.
